Great But Forgotten/Unknown Games

Did you ever have a game you thought was great when you played it but no one else seems to have even heard of it?
This is a thread to talk about them, spread the word and show what makes them so good.

It can be any system but, ideally, anything previous to the current gen for the sake of reawakening any memories people have about the games.
Try not to focus on games like Chrono Trigger or Sonic 3 because everyone knows those games.

I had a game on the PS1 called "Tomba!" in the US or "Tombi!" in the UK.

It was a great game. It was a Platformer RPG-like game with fully animated and voiced anime style FMV.

It was bright, colourfull and unique. You would do quests like clearing the fog or finding a 1,000 year old man and gain points for doing it. You would upgrade your clothes and weapons to make fighting enemies easier and gain new platforming abilities like dashing or sneaking.
The game played with a side scroll view, mostly, but sometimes you had top down sections.

I was slightly creeped out, when I was younger, at the "Mushroom Forest" area of the game. There were these giant flowers everywhere with creepy (to a kid) clown faces on them and you had these mushrooms you could find around the area and eat. If you eat a certain type of mushroom, they'd go into hysterics and just start smiling and laughing but if you got the other type of mushroom, they'd look sad and start crying and whining. It was just really creepy to me.

I'd really like to play it again but it costs upwards of £60 ($98) for it on eBay (It's £39.99 for a modern day game) with one guy wanting £149 ($240) for it. So it'll be a long time before I ever play it again.
