Excellent Games That Caught You Off-Guard
Tell us about some games that you went into with low expectations, and were blown away.
NecroVision: In no way did I expect this game to be as utterly insane as it is. World War One trench warfare, zombies, vampires, riding on the back of dragons, demons, giant robots. It's the kind of retardedly good fun you'd get in an old-fashioned game, but with modern graphics. Trine: I wasn't expecting a lot from a two-dimensional side-scroller, but it's actually incredible. There are a lot of different ways to solve each problem, and it forces you to be creative. The visuals are also excellent. Quote:

Only one I can think of that wasn't from me previously renting, borrowing, or knowing about online/magazine would be:
1) Turok on the N64. Got it as a gift having no clue what it was since I never heard of the game before and only recently got an N64. Took a month to figure out how to jump correctly in 3D after being used to 2D with NES games but ended up loving the game in the end. 2) BattleTanx: Global Assault on the N64. 3) The Punisher for the Xbox. Knew and read about this game but didn't expect it to be as great as it ended up being while playing. There should be more but trying to remember what games where the ones I just picked up at random and which I played or knew about before. |

Castle Vania Lord of Shadows
I figured it would be shit, a money grab that was a clone of God of War Ended up being my favorite game of the last 2 years, with the best endings and twists I can think of. |
