Triangle/Triple Threat/Three Corners...

...Triangle/Triple Threat/Three Corners,/three ways ect...

So I’m finally posting on TPWW after getting my news hear from at least 1997 and on. Back when it was Triple A and some other guy, talking about life in Yonkers and not Ryan Clark saying stupid shit. Thanks for having me, I’ve been reading your posts for years I’ve seen people come and go and change user names, so you may call me a "newb" but I’ve probably been around here reading longer than a lot of you, even before some of you could type. Anyway glad to be a registered member after all these years,
I suppose I should have waited for a more Epic Topic…With the buzz in wrestling I sure picked a bad time to make such a lamish thread, it hasn’t been a slow news day for awhile in the wrestling world.
Anyway, WCW had the Triangle match where there was only two wrestlers in the ring at once, anyone can tag anyone, they did these for both single and tag matches. I always found the rules to be ridiculous, but at least they had them as far back as 94 as far as I can remember.

Then one day Raymond Reugeau came onto my TV during WWF Programming to do the spots for Canadian house shows and TV Tapings, one was a double TV taping (not advertised as one) event dubbed "Triple Threat". I believe the Match was Michaels, Hart and Sid(or Taker). Now this triple threat match wasn’t the triple threat match we know now. I was there and I remember everyone in the crowed being confused how you won, did you have to pin both at once or could you pin them individually, anyway Michaels won by pinning them both at once with a cross body from the top rope to both of them.

About Three to Six months later (or so it felt as a child, may have been less) WWF TV had a triple threat with "New Rules"… The Fact that the announcer said New Rules gives me the impression that (since it was done on a house show on never on TV as far as I know) they must have done the triple threat in a bunch of cities (they said Toronto was the first ever but they may have said that at a few big events, I think that was the taping of the two last 1 hour raw’s, as they taped two episodes at once)
The "New Rules" Match that took place on TV involved Owen Hart and pretty sure Savio Vega and whoever ells would be feuding for the IC belt then (Goldust maybe)

So what im getting at is:
Did you guys hate the two other sets of rules as much as I did?
Anyone Actually Like the Other Rules?
How far back do these matches go (NWA,WCW,WWF, no Indy’s.
Did WWE do any before the Skydome one?

And any other general discussion regarding triple threat matches, In my opinion they don’t do enough of them with the mid-card, they can be very entertaining and a great way to give an extra few guys TV time a week, Just make sure they’re wrestling matches and not spot fests. WCW has a lot of people who are heavier then cruiserweights but could be considered Junior Weights (Danielson, Tyson Kid, guys those size) if they’re not going to give them a cruiser weight division at least have those guys work nice 10-15 minute triple threat matches.

I feel they don’t like to do them with mid-carders (only main event) as the mid-carders have proven in the last decade that they can steal the show with a triple threat (Jericho,Eddie,Angle @WM)

As for three way, I prefer all 3 guys in the ring, but elimination rules instead of one fall.

I'm with you on this one. I feel like ECW was good at those. The difference between a "Triple Threat" and a "3-Way Dance".

Yeah, I had an awesome one on DVD between Super Crazy, Tajiri and Little Guido which was "off the chain". Wish WWE did them more.

Forgot to mention the elimination style, that made the tag ones make more sense.

(been reading the news since 97 atleast and I dont think the forum came around till about a year after, if it was around i didn't pay attention. I remember when they had the old school lay-out for both the website with those standerd banners of the time as well as the old school message boards that were the same on each website. )

Kofi Kingston, Tyson Kidd, Daniel Bryan, Gabrial & That red headed step child he tags with, .... ad mysterio and true cruiser weights(as well as all the smaller guys I cant think of right now) and you can have a great devision, make it "under 225" or something....or just Junior Weight...

Make the devision have a lot of triple threat. thats what i say... it would easily be the most contested and competative division in the WWE, Make it available to anyone on raw or smackdown under 225...

OK, we believe you. You've been here.

I don't think I'm a fan of weight division. It puts limitations on things. Maybe they could just book the Intercontinental or US title in that manner, though.

Someone Triple A had writing on the front page went on to be interviewed or had conversations with Russo and suggested the fat chick thrilla gimmick to him for Mike Awesome.

A lasting legacy to be sure.

I do remember the first Triple Threat on Raw, I believe it was Shawn vs Taker vs Sid, and yeah the drama of how do you win, and Shawn pinned them both. It was a great match, the first WWE 3 man non handicapped match I am aware of.

A Triangle Match is the WCW version, with 1 on 1 action and a man or team you can tag on the outside.

3-Way Dance is the ECW version with double elimination.

ECW rocked it best, no doubt.

Either one is alright...... different feuds could require the different stipulation.....

WCW's was a bit weird but ECW's was great for how entertaining they could be when its not restricted to just the main event or upper card like the WWE.

I get why the WWE doesn't want Triple Threats for Wrestlemania to keep the 1v1 feel of the match but they should use it more often for other ppvs to freshen up things once in a while.

It was more of how the WWE traditionally likes to use singles matches for the major title at Wrestlemania and I think before the brand split, WM 2000 was the only main event or match for the title to use more than 2 people.

I knew 20, 24, and 25 had Triple Threats but completely forgot about 22 having one for a major title. I think WM 20 was also the only one to have a Triple Threat as the final match of the show.

Didn't they have a Wrestlmania with hardly any (if any) 1 on 1 matches, not sure which one...

I remember watching it, thinking it kinda ruined wrestlmania but it turned out great.

Welcome to the boards, guy.

I had no clue that there used to be Three-Way Matches where you had to beat both guys to get the win. Personally, this match has been something I've wanted to see for a long time. I think it'd be a fresh way of presenting Triple Threat Matches that breaks the formula a bit. Elimination rules is always a lot of fun, too.

That being said, sudden death does have its place. Nicky Fives is right when he says that.

Sudden death triple threats are an easy way out of a title switch. Not saying it's a bad thing. Just saying.

I wouldn't order that because the title isn't specific enough about what would actually be on the show.
