He was the head writer of the WWF during the dawn of their most profitable era. That's why he's been signed to WCW and TNA.
He was originally brought on, the story goes, because Vince saw his Vick Venom fantasy booking in WWF Magazine and asked why it was better than what they were booking. Russo was a big part of constructing the Attitude Era. The difference between his tenure with the WWF and WCW and TNA is that he had an ultimate filter in Vince McMahon in the WWF and doesn't have that in TNA nor did he have that in WCW. So while he does have good ideas, without a Vince McMahon there to filter him and bounce things around with him he's absolute shit. He'd be better off as a consultant than a head booker. |

I cant think of one really solid angle he had in WCW or TNA, so the well dried out a long time ago.

Aside from the obvious Attitude Era storylines, I thought he did an amazing job with Lance Storm in WCW, who he booked to perfection and made the choice to make Storm a triple-champion. He also booked Booker T to a World Title, even if his series of matches with Kevin Nash and Jeff Jarrett afterward were pretty lackluster. I was also a fan of the initial storyline between DDP and Jeff Jarrett over the WCW Title, but then Arquette got involved and we all know how that shit turned out.

I am sure this thread was done recently, think it was just about his wcw days. Well, might've been a few months ago.

I don't know if it was a russo idea, but I liked jay lethal going black machismo, JL's feud with ric flair, and I LOVED the tony schiavone heel turn interview in TNA, (my favorite TNA interview that I can remember seeing).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtg-HSJT7b4 esp when tenay goofed up bad.... i cringed at his botch... tony said tenay felt that tony held him down, and tenay says "i held you down?" then goes into almost nonsensical bickering for about 2 mins or so before russo comes out and grabs tenay When russo grabs Tenay I keep thinking that tenay'll go heenan on him ala the infamous brian pillman wcw incident, even though i know better. Priceless

I actually loved Russo when he was in S.E.X in the early days of TNA. In saying that, I think he was just an on-screen talent at the time, rather than having any say in booking, ala Eric Bischoff in the WWE.
Russo was a writer for the WWE during the Attitude Era but the level of his contributions have always changed since he left for WCW if you listen to the WWE sources. In WCW he was in total charge and while a lot of bad things happened, he was instrumental in Booker T being pushed to the top and for bringing through the young guys like (I think this is what they were called) the Natural Born Thrillers. What he's put forward for TNA is difficult to say since Dixie Carter will always deny him having anything to do with storylines which are negatively received and defends him so much to the point, that I think there was some kind of threat issued to the crowd if they chanted "Fire Russo" at their events. |

Dude, Vince Russo booked a Hollywood legend to be WCW champ. Pure genius.

Taking DX, as an example, I highly doubt that Vince Russo went to Shawn and Triple H and was all like "You know what would be cool? If you two got together, went all wild, did crotch-chops, and formed a group called D-Generation X". |

I doubt Shawn Michaels would have listened to Russo at that point, fuck , he wasnt even listening to Vince.
I think we can credit Russo with other things like Val Venus' porn star gimmick rather than these storylines. Its pretty obvious from his tenures at WCW and TNA that it was (all) Russo during the Attitude Era. |

Vince Russo is like former Yankees infielder Luis Sojo.
Sojo was on a couple Championship Yankees team, but he wasn't really a great player...he just happened to be on the team when they won a couple World Series. Same with Russo. I think he just happened to be head booker when all the great talent was going out and making what turned out to be history. |

Russo's first run in wcw, with the powers that be, was actually starting to take off. He even made tank Abbott look like a serious challenger to Goldberg. But once he was fired, I think it involved the same storyline and where he wanted to take it, he never recovered.
But I'm sure its what everyone has said. He is a creative machine, just creates storylines all day long, but without someone sift through and pick out the good ones, we get ALL of them....... at once....... in a matter of minutes ...... And we are supposed to forget them the following week |

Vick Venom was just an alias he'd use in the WWF Magazine and a few of his columns were based on fantasy booking. No real angle out of it, though I think he may have shown up on TV as Vick Venom once or twice. Though I'm not sure if that was after he was already booking.
