Abre los ojos AKA "Open Your Eyes"

Just saw this today. ****ing amazing movie. I was marking out throughout the entire thing, saying "WOW THIS MOVIE IS ****ING GREAT". GREAT SHIT.

It's the original version of Vanilla Sky. Vanilla Sky is a remake of this movie, which was actually made in 1997. Vanilla Sky was remade like four years later. It's a Spanish movie, in case you didn't realize from the title, dick.

PLOT: This guy is really handsome and can basically get any girl he wants, but then he suffers a horrible car accident and his face becomes really disfigured and his life turns to shit because of it.

Then the rest of the movie is all this surreal, weird shit going on. I love it. If I ever made a movie, I would want it to be like this. It has everything for my taste, IMO.

Same writer/director who did The Others.

How different is the remake? Cause I've seen that but always meant to go back and see the original.

I haven't seen it for 3 or 4 years, but it was pretty good. Penelope Cruz plays the same role as she does in Vanilla Sky, and gets her tits out.

It's not really different at all. I guess it feels more well put together though. Vanilla Sky kinda got unorganized and a little confusing at times. I remember loving Vanilla Sky just as much though, so I dunno. It's basically the same exact thing. I haven't seen Vanilla Sky in a couple of years though, so this probably just refreshed my memory. I love these kinda movies.

I was disappointed with Vanilla Sky.

A lot of people hated that movie. But then again, most of them are the type of people who like shit like You Got Served and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

It is amazing though, IMO. I don't get why everyone hates it.

Yea and a lot of people immediately hate it because Tom Cruise is in it.

But Abre los Ojos was on my "movies to watch" list. Did you have to download it or could it be found at a video store?

My problem with it, both versions, is that I think "it was all a dream" endings are a total cop out. All this bizarre stuff goes on, and they just say "fuck it, forget an explanation, we'll just say he was dreaming".

It wasn't really like that though. It wasn't a dream. It was that shit he signed up for, so it was more complicated and original than just having him suddenly wake up and realize everything was a dream.

I probably need to watch it again. I haven't seen either of them in at least a couple of years. Plus, I watched Vanilla Sky on a plane.

Don't get me wrong, I liked them, but I just wasn't satisfied with the ending, is what I am saying. Mainly what I took from the films was really wanting to have sex with Penelope Cruz.

It's not that Vanilla Sky just wasn't "my type of movie" or that Tom Cruise was in it. He happens to be in two of my favorite movies ever (Rainman and Jerry Maguire). I just couldn't get into it for some reason. Seemed well made and all but it just bored me.

Okay I rented this movie and although Vanilla Sky kicked ass, I found Open Your Eyes much better. I can't really explain why... I just felt more "satisfied" after it was over. The only things I liked better about Vanilla Sky was the soundtrack... and Jason Lee.

Normally I find Penelope Cruz annoying but she came off as hot in this movie. It was a pretty impressive movie and on top of that, it probably didn't have a budget half the size of Vanilla Sky.

Yeah she comes off ass less annoying because she doesn't have a Spanish accent when speaking English, thus she doesn't seem like an idiot.

She seems more like a normal hot chick than a dumbass foreigner.
