Backstage Politics

So, I've been thinking a lot about the backstage politics of WWE, TNA, indies, WCW, ECW, etc, and their differences, similarities, flaws, pluses, etc.

What do you think would make someone want to work for one company over the other based solely on the backstage politics, etc? For example, you have folks like Gail Kim, Kurt Angle, etc who say they'll never go back to WWE and then CM Punk, who essentially says he would never go back to TNA, each for their supposedly own unique reasons.

I'm curious to get others thoughts on this. Feel free to discuss in detail, include links/vids to shoots, etc if necessary. Also, feel free to discuss past issues, etc.
