Help meeeeee

My girlfriend's computer is a very old Acer desktop. After about 5 or 6 years of accumulation it naturally runs like shit. So, I reformatted it to the factory state. And now it can't connect to the internet. When I plug in an ethernet cable, either through the router or straight from the modem, it takes forever to identify the network, and then it's local access only, can't connect to the internet.

I've googled the shit out of this, and it seems like it's a pretty common problem for Vista. But all the solutions I've tried have done nothing. And I've tried a ton of stuff.

At this point the only thing I can come up with is that the network card somehow got fucked when I reformatted. But I have no idea why that would happen.

Any ideas?

Exclamation

Update all the motherboard drivers is about the only thing I can think of as that would update the ethernet drivers. If you've got a USB wifi device handy to test it out, at least you can tell if it is the ethernet and not some more serious network issue.

I've tried updating the ethernet driver, hasn't worked. It's not a network issue because I connect wirelessly just fine.

Red face

I was more thinking a networking issue with Windows than the actual network. Tried manually inputting the IP and DNS details for the network?

Right-click connection, properties then properties on TCP/IP V4 and just copy the details from your wireless connection apart from IP Address, which you'd just have to add one to on the last digit.
