Sim City 3000 was gold. I still have it lying around the house somewhere.

Nowadays I prefer Command and Conquer: Generals for building things, because you get to destroy people.

Yeah I had an awesome city once. Until a tornado came through and hit my nuclear power plant. Fucking game... I played a little bit longer, but that tornado devastated me and my "will" to play that game.

I've started one from scratch, screw up a bit with the port I built which hasn't grew Probably could have used that money but I'm making money each year. Got a Sim Nation jail which is fun and someone is paying me to take their garbage

I'm using low density zones at the moment. I dunno when I will have high rise buildings, probably never I've never understood the density stuff, well I know what it means just not it which situations to use it.

Well first off, I always zone only medium density when starting out. Your land values won't be high enough to get the skyscrapers and huge apartments and stuff when you start out, so zoning high density is just a waste of money when you start out.

As for the seaport, I wouldn't really spend the money on it until you have about 200,000 people. Other than for the garbage deals, it just causes too much pollution and crime with no payback. Once you get a moderate-sized city, the seaport helps your industry develop a ton, but until then it's a bit of a waste of money.

Same with the airport, only it helps your commerse and not your industry. I usually wait till I have about 500,000 people before I make an airport, for the same reasons as the seaport. The airport pollutes horrendously, and attracts a lot of crime, so make sure you're prepared for it.


The garbage deal and whatnot is good to make some money to start with, but eventually you'll want to cancel it so you can use that land to build other things, not to mention the great boost to land value you'll get without that trash around. In fact, in my city I export my garbage so I don't have to worry about it. Same thing with water, I just get my water from my neighbour so I don't have to worry about building pumps and all that. Much easier that way, IMO. Only if you have the money to spare though, I wouldn't recommend it until you have a few hundred thousand people.

Yeah the seaport just doesn't grow at all, so I don't really have to worry about it (except for that stupid bint going on about the seaport not developing )

BTW do you know if you can get those sign posts like they had on 2000?

Well also, the seaport is a bit tricky to develop. When you make it, the shoreline has to be pretty straight near it. Plus it has to be relatively big (like a 6x8 zone, for instance)

Like in my second screenshot there, at the top you can see it (hard to notice because I'm zoomed out so far). Something along the lines of that is fine for a seaport, doesn't have to be huge or anything.

And nah, I don't think they have the signs in this one. At least, I haven't come across any at all.


Oh and since you asked earlier in the thread, yes, you can turn off distasters. Open the one menu with Save, Load, Exit, etc. In the options, at the very bottom, you can turn them off.

BTW I noticed your different types of bridge, do the options for the different type depend on mass of water your crossing or something? I'm sure it was something like that in 2000 anyway. I was messing about with the bridges in a game before and it built them automatically but I don't think the river to cross was all too big.

Yeah that's a disappointing thing about this. In 2000 you could choose what type of bridge you wanted. In 3000, it just makes the best type for the space of the water. Would be cool if you could choose different types.

The reason I have a couple different ones are because they aren't all roads. The huge red ones are roads, but the flat looking ones are railway bridges, they don't get anything fancy. Finally, there's just one small powerline crossing, to power the other side of the city. If you have a less-wide river, you get a different type of bridge.


All that being said, bridges are still ****ing brutal to try and make sometimes. When I made the one bridge, I did it after I developped the land all around it, so it took me about 10 minutes of demolishing and levelling the terrain before I could finally get it to work without that damn "Construction error" message thing.

One of the coolest things I ever did on 2000 was have a tunnel and then when the tunnel ended, bang straight into a suspension bridge.

Yeah there's tunnels in this, but they're really rare for some reason. I dunno, maybe it's just 'cause I mainly build on flat land, so I don't have as much need for them (I only have 2 in that city up there)

I Can not get bridges

Oh okay nevermind, I was thinking of something else.

To make a tunnel, you basically just have to build a road "into" a really steep mountain. It will tell you how much it costs and all, and voila.

The easiest way, I've found, was to make sure both sides of the river are clear. Start making your road about 10 tiles before the river, and continue till 10 tiles after. It should work then. If not, then try to level the sides of the river as best you can so they're parallel. It works best when there's no buildings or anything, so you don't get the construction error

Got off to my best start last night. Got a decent income and I've got a county couthouse and a local council office or something which I've both got for the first time playing from the start. I think this is the City that I'm going to build up and do a decent job of it as well

Always try and make sure you get a nice profit each year before you try expanding too much. Generally, I try to expand fast and cover the whole area, then go back and touch up everything afterwards. That's just my strategy though, might not work the same for youu

End of each year I'll add a few industrial or residential zones depending what's in demand (there isn't much demand for commercial land). I love my rail network and my sim nation jail. I haven't name d a building after you yet though

Yeah at the beginning, people want nothing to do with commercial. Once your city gets more developed though, they'll want it like hot cakes. For instance, in my city, my annual income from Residential is approx. $500,000. My income from Industrial is about $50,000. My income from Commercial is about $250,000. When I was starting out though, the Commercial and Industrial numbers were nearly reversed (to a much smaller scale of course). When you get a certain population they'll want the Commerceeee
