Tony Schiavone Today
![]() http://gwinnettbraves.mlblogs.com/ I still would mark out if he showed up in WWE. Here is his official Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/tonyschiavone24 ![]() http://www.wsbradio.com/staff/tony-schiavone/ Also, what the fuck is he doing with those earrings? ![]() Let's discuss Tony Schiavone and if he could fit into the modern landscape of sports entertainment. |

Also, let us not forget his awesome hair, shirt, and heel turn in NWA-TNA. Sadly, we didn't get Tenay vs Tony in a steel cage like we all hoped.

I wasn't a super huge fan, but I'd still mark out. It would be the greatest mark out moment in the history of our sport. At least, until the next one. It would be real life, folks. AND, it would put butts in seats! As far as fitting into the landscape, some sort of program with Michael Cole would make sense.... get him known to kids too young to know what "a WCW" was. |

I liked his WCW work. Surprised that it seems most fans didn't like his commentating.

I didn't mind him. He seemed to get desperate/become a dick after WCW though.

nothing wrong with Schiavone, better PBP guy than everybody WWE has on TV atm. Hugely surprised if he ever wound up working for Vince again tho

I liked his commentary. He basically did everything he could to sell whatever programs WCW was putting on. I think he is far better than Michael Cole who I have never found to be a good commentator. The fact that Cole is considered the voice of WWE is ridiculous. I liked Coach better (and he was a lousy commentator)

I liked him, but I don't think there's a spot for him in mainstream sports entertainment. It would be like bringing back Mr. Bob Backlund or Gillberg. They just won't connect to the modern audience, and that's a damn shame... Well maybe Mr. Bob Backlund could do so as a manager.... Anyways, no, Tony has no place left in this industry, and that's a sad thing to say.

I liked him too. I don't think he was a great commentator, but I don't think he was that bad. Way better than Michael Cole.
I think part of the reason Schiavone has a reputation as a bad commentator is because he was compared to WWE's commentator at the time, Jim Ross. And also because every week was "the greatest night in the history of our sport". |

He had a hyperbole addiction but at least he was putting the product over, prefer him to Cole any day of the week though both are a poor mans Joey Styles.

Schiavone never seemed to know what he was really talking about in terms of the details, (which was why I liked having Mike Tenay on the announce team with them to actually call the ins and outs of a match), but he had a great voice and was really good at making even matches that you knew were going to suck sound exciting.

Tony Schiavone was the worst commentator in the history of our sport.

Tony was very good behind the desk, he brought balance to whatever WCW threw his way, he was best with Jesse Ventura though, I really enjoyed their work together. Mark Madden was horrible though.
