Big Show's World Heavyweight title reign/s. * image posted *

I was watching it today and Big Show was referred to as a 2-time World Heavyweight Champion. Understanding that the DVD was out a few years ago, did they refer to him as a World Heavyweight Champion in general or WCW Champion?

So is Big Show now a 3-time World Heavyweight Champion?

From a WHC standpoint yes.

in REALITY, if you count his ECW title reign he's a 6 time world champ (1x ECW, 2x WCW, 2x WWF/E, 1x WHC). If you don't, then he's a 5x, 5x, 5x, 5x, 5x world champ (had to get that in there ).

Given the E's current word use in regards to belts, they'd refer to him as WHC. However, back when WCW was around up until the Title unification match that Jericho won, they would have referred to him as the WCW champion.

On a related note, thank you for reminding me of the shit encounter that Hogan and Show had at Halloween Havoc I think 95 (though i marked out at the time). xD

His second title match win, which was over Flair, was sooooo bad it was comical, which was its only saving grace, imo

I know that Big Show is a

2-time WWE Champion
2-time WCW Champion and a
1-time World Heavyweight Champion

But the documentary read Big Show as a 2-time World Heavyweight Champion instead of 2-time WCW Champion. So are they considering reigns as WCW Champion to be reigns as World Heavyweight Champion?

ECW could have been good if they let Paul actually book it, they had RVD, Show, Angle, Sabu, Punk. They could have built up (maybe) Monty Brown and Kevin Thorn.

The DVD also refers to Booker T as a 6-time World Heavyweight Champion and John Cena as a 2-time World Heavyweight Champion.

So according to that logic, Big Show is now a 3-time World Heavyweight Champion. But according to WWE's official history of the World Heavyweight Championship, Big Show has had only a single reign as the World's Heavyweight Champion.

Yeah, it's a bit of a tricky one this. See, when the WWE first brought in the World Heavyweight Championship in 2002, they pretended that it had an entirely new history, despite being the old WCW Title belt. On the other hand, when they brought back the United States Championship as an entirely new belt...old history still applied.

For years I canonically considered the WCW Title and World Heavyweight Championship to be separate histories, but when the WWE sees fit they have brought up the WCW Title in conjunction with the World Heavyweight Title. It was mainly that DVD, but I think Matt Striker used to do it on commentary, too (not that he's a be-all, end-all authority or anything). But the WWE.com website still seems to imply that the World Heavyweight Title is only ten years old and was created when Eric Bischoff crowned Triple H the inaugural champion. The WWE also often lumps WWE Title victories and World Heavyweight Title victories into the same boat, though. For some reason, that really bugs me.

I guess the best way to look at it is sort of like the histories are somewhat "related" if not exactly continuous. The World Heavyweight Championship history is sort of the like the offspring to the WCW Championship, if you will. Big Show, Chris Benoit, Goldberg, Booker T, Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho are the men to have held the championship in its separate incarnations. Angle and Jericho only held the WCW Title after the fall of WCW, however.

Big Show is the first man to have held the WWE Championship, WCW Championship and ECW Championship as it were, though. If you consider the World Heavyweight Championship a separate title then he is the only man to have won all four, too. He's also only the second man (next to Edge) to have won every single active championship in the WWE. If the World Heavyweight Title is considered a separate title to the WCW Title, then Kane would be the first person to have won the WWE Title, World Heavyweight Title and ECW Title, with Big Show being the second.

Personally, I don't see why the WWE doesn't just include the WCW Title history in their World Heavyweight Title history. I guess it's just a pride thing. I think it would just clear a lot of things up, though.

That's very true. Maybe Vince doesn't want David Arquette and Vince Russo to be considered canonical World Champions in the WWE's active history.

WWE counts The Big Show beating Hogan by DQ as a title reign because Jimmy Hart made a stipulation that the title could change hands on a DQ.

WCW then stripped him of the title, but there was no legal reason to do so. Jimmy Hart had the right to make the stipulation. Big Show IS a two-time WCW Champion.

No one is disputing Big Show's number of WCW Title reigns, STD. I think the issue is to whether or not Big Show is a three-time World Heavyweight Champion or one-time World Heavyweight Champion and two-time WCW Champion.

Simpletons, according to the Oxford encyclopedia of serious business in pro rasslin Big Show is a 2 time champ. And you can't argue with them bc they have old buildings.

The WCW Title is sometimes referred to as the World Heavyweight Championship. So, it could go either way.

Officially, the World Heavyweight title is not a continuation of the WCW Championship unlike the United States Championship, which has the lineage of the WCW United States Championship. I believe it has something to do with David Arquette.
