Could a Hogan match draw big for WWE at this point?

Is Hogan just too old/out of it to draw for WWE anymore? Ten years ago, we had Hogan vs Rock, which was arguably one of the biggest matches in WrestleMania history.

Could Cena vs. Hogan draw? Maybe Hogan vs Austin? Are we too far removed from Hogan's height in popularity that his fans just wouldn't return at this point?

This isn't a question of whether they SHOULD do a match like this, but only whether there's still potential for a drawing match like Rock vs Hogan assuming Hogan could go enough to put on the match he'd need to.

I'd say there is potential, especially if they were able to do Austin vs Hogan. That would bring some old fans out of the woodworks (where old fans go).

Well....if you take away the age and the fact that he can't really do much anymore in the ring....I think Hogan the character is a draw no matter what period of time you're in. The problem I think about it is that most young fans today were born after or during his runs in the 90's. So....yeah it would draw, but maybe not as much as it would have ten years ago.

maby as a tag team, like team hogan vs team piper, that would be good for wrestllmania 30. have young wrestlers in 90% of the match then hogan and piper would entertain the crowd for a little.

Depends how they marketed it IMO, I dont think he was really a draw in his last run as Mr America or whatever but as a one off 'Mania match, depending on his opponent, it could draw, as long as they dont let him anywhere near a match until that point because hes way too old and broken it would kill off any interest.

Hogan is still probably the biggest name in the history of professional wrestling. The match would be horrible, but it'd draw.

It's not his age, or his charisma... it's his ability. He simply does not have the work rate to be a big draw. His name will put a few asses in seats, sell a few shirts, etc, however WWE could do even more with Austin, Bret Hart, Brock Lesnar, or even Matt Striker.

Hogan can still start a small fire, but his light is fading away. All that's left is the char that was in his wake as a reminder of who he was.

They said on that legends roundtable a while back that "if used sparingly Hogan could still draw very well" (or words to that effect).

That being said i think he's far too immobile these days for any real big spotlight matches. Don't even think he can do the legdrop anymore due to his ongoing back issues.

Hogan's last couple runs didn't really draw, so I'd say the odds are pretty low.

God, I miss the pragmatism of Rob Harvey.

I don't think it would be any bigger of a draw for Wrestlemania than the PPV is for itself anyway. Hogan is just too far past it now. What made Rock/Hogan so great was seeing Hogan (and the nWo for that matter) in the WWE again. Nobody ever thought it'd happen, and after the WCW buyout and the Invasion, this is something that we SHOULD have seen in 2001. Since then however, Hogan has still been active, having short runs in WWE and hogging the spotlight in TNA. I just don't think 'people' ie. non-wrestling fans, really give a shit.

If Hogan came back for a match at Wrestlemania 30 against John Cena (just as an example), I don't think it'd make for any extra buys. The PPV will sell as it does based on the fact that it's Wrestefuckingmania, but I don't think 'old fans' would 'return' just to see Hogan/Cena.

The same could be said for Austin/Cena. Back in Austin's day, EVERYONE I knew watched wrestling. I seriously doubt any of my friends would order a PPV because Austin's a part of it. In fact, I seriously doubt any of them even give a shit about Austin nowadays anyway, and any memories they have of watching wrestling back in the day is nothing more than "yeah, I use to watch Wrestling. Warzone was a fun game".

They wanted to do Hogan vs Big Show a while back at one of the Wrestlemania's (23 i think for obvious reasons) but the payoff wasn't enough for Hogan to be interested.

Still wouldnt mind seeing that as a Wrestlemania match as a nod to the past.

WWE tv heals all wounds for Hogan. He comes back and real American blares and all will be forgotten and forgiven. Though he probably couldn't wrestle again in real booked WWE match.

yeah. Most casual WWE fans don't realize TNA (ft. Hulk Hogan) even exists. Hogan is still Hogan. You only have to see him turning face after the Sting match last year to see what kind of reaction (from a significantly smaller crowd) he can still elicit/that people still want to see him do his schtick.

I think just based on that fact alone, he will never be in a match in the WWE again. Maybe a segment here or there, but no kinda of real storyline or match.

Side note,

I actually liked this match, mostly for the nostalgia of seeing Hogan vs Sting "one more time" and Flair was a really nice touch in that match too. I really hope that Impact doesn't turn back into the Hogan/ Sting show... again. From what it's looking like though

Hogan vs Khali. 25 years after the Andre match. Book it.

Side note,

I actually liked this match, mostly for the nostalgia of seeing Hogan vs Sting "one more time" and Flair was a really nice touch in that match too. I really hope that Impact doesn't turn back into the Hogan/ Sting show... again. From what it's looking like though
Between Hogan, Flair and Sting theres about 174 years of age...

We know Hogans still wrestling \ involved in it because of his whore ex-wife somehow being entitled to ridiculous sums of money after a life time of sitting on her arse mooching of her Husbands money. Flairs had at last count approximately 35 divorces to pay for and is up to his nose in debt, that and "living the gimmick" pissed away most of his money like a true idiot. Whats the story with Sting though? He penniless as well?

That's pretty much the extent of the match you'd get, honestly.

WWE could easily hype it into something huge but the match itself would probably be way too short to live up to the hype.

I don't think TNA has really benefited from having Hogan matches even though they've hyped them up pretty decently.

some guys actually...wait for it...wait for ittttt...enjoy performing in front of a live crowd/have a passion for what they do shocking I know given that it's obviously a guarantee that every single person over 40 is cynically still in the business because they need the money or have 35 divorces to pay for or are some kind of loser for not wanting to give it up

Its ok to "love to perform" but as time goes on theyre fighting a losing battle trying to perform as they once did. Unavoidable but thats life

Dunno about that, i recall an interview with undetaker where he said that he hoped someone would tell him if he was performing underpar in matches, and that was around wrestlemania 18 when he was discussing Hogan still wrestling at 47 (an age that undertaker said he didnt think he would still be in the ring at). Think it was on OTR.
