Why not hire comic book writers?
I just got back from seeing The Avengers (for the second time) and thought to myself, the WWE could gain some more fans by following some of the basic storylines from these movies.
Most of the current writing staff consists of failed soap opera writers who took to WWE because they couldnt find a job. This might have been just fine and dandy during the Attitude era when the company branded themselves as a "Soap Opera for Men." With super hero movies like The Avengers, Dark Knight, and Spider Man absolutely crushing the competition at the box office, wouldn't it make sense to draw from a pool of writers who make lackluster comics instead of failed soap operas? IMO, it would totally build up the good vs. evil dynamic the company is trying to produce. |

What's in it for the comic book writers? If they can write comic books movies scripts and cash in why lower themselves to writing for wrestling?

It would also help if they didn't have a cast of performers who are just the absolute worst actors ever. It kinda limits what you can do with a script.
But what do I know, I'm not actually here right now. OOOOOOOOOOOOOH |

Failed comic book writers, who know the basics of plot can plan stories way better than soap opera writers who go episode to episode.

You would only need the talent involved in short bursts and then let them tell the story in their matches. Just like a comic book movie, let the fighting and action scenes spell it out while laying the groundwork in some solid good vs. evil stories where the protagonist has a definite weakness to overcome.

How about they hire wrestling writers. Guys who want to be involved in an aspect of the business that they grew up watching and appreciating -- or former wrestlers themselves who know what does and doesn't work.

You don't have to re-invent the wheel. I remember Stephanie McMahon once said on ESPN (in the piece they did about Vince) that they have writers from all walks of life: Hollywood, Conan O'Brien, etc. And I think that's what, in part, has damaged the wrestling business. Guys who come in and have absolutely no idea what the wrestling business is all about. You look at WWE, and when wrestling guys like Paul Heyman and Jim Cornette have done the writing, the product has been very good. WWE (and the wrestling business in general) shouldn't have to look very far for writers, they should look within.

Hire Joss Whedon to write a year long story arc. He will take someone who has nothing going for them, and build him up into an extremely likeable character.... only for him to get killed off in his last episode.

I definitely 100% agree on that, Noid. Those are the kind of people that need to be writers and bookers in the first place, because they have the fundamentals of perfecting their craft from the inside out.

Hire Alan Moore. He could come up with some good characters and stories.
