If you were to create a new "SmackDown! Six" how would you go about it?

Under Paul Heyman's book in 2002, seemingly out of nowhere, a new WWE Tag Team Division sprung up overnight. Creating a new set of championship belts, there were some random ass teams thrown together in a tournament to crown some new champions. Three teams would really stand out and capture the imaginations and steal the show of many PPVs around this time, however. I'll look at those three teams, and who I would replace them with if I were trying to recapture that magic of a decade ago:

Then: Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit
A team that consisted of two wrestlers who did not really like each other, but were forced to compete together for the sake of establishing the new division. Technically a heel tag team, the mismatched personalities of the duo made them entertaining outside the ring, and endeared them to quite a few fans. Angle would end up the WWE Champion again by the year's end, and Benoit would end up facing him for the title at the 2003 Royal Rumble, in a match that kick-started what would become Benoit's rise to the top of the WWE mountain (a great story at the time, sadly marred now).

It was their desire to be "The Best" that allowed them to work so effectively as a team. People knew that they didn't like each other, but they would take it out on their opponents by trying to one-up each other in terms of who could hit the highest impact maneuver; who could come off the top rope with the prettiest move; or who had the most lethal submission hold.

Now: CM Punk & Daniel Bryan
Imagine this duo. Two men who have known each other for years, and have recently started up an on-air rivalry. Both have achieved World Title glory (in CM Punk's case, many times over), and have established themselves as men who are considered great in the ring. Punk claims that he is "The Best in the World" and Bryan has been branded by WWE.com as the "greatest submission specialist in WWE history." As "The Best in the World," CM Punk & Daniel Bryan could form an unlikely tag team that could capture imaginations. Bryan is technically a heel, but his goofy attitude and his finger-pointing while he chants "YES!" is undeniably over, and he could very easily endear himself to your casual fan over time.

Plus, Gertner would just be happy to get these guys out of the singles main event storylines.

Then: Los Guerreros
Uncle and nephew, Eddie & Chavo were part of the legendary Guerrero family. Although Eddie undeniably had better mic skills and arguably more charisma than his nephew did, both were tremendous in the ring and highly entertaining together. Their "lie, cheat and steal" attitude started off as an obvious heel shtick, but eventually became beloved by the WWE fan-base, so much so that the team eventually had to be turned babyface. These two would last much longer as a duo than any of the others in the division at the time, to help both get established, and because they had more "reason" to team.

Now: The Kings of Wrestling
It might be a dirty word in the WWE, but it would certainly create a stir, wouldn't it? The WWE might have plans to keep both guys separate, but Antonio Cesaro & Kassius Ohno have so much chemistry in the ring, that any tag team resurgence would benefit from having them involved in it. Charismatic, able to talk, with credible size and ability -- The Kings of Wrestling could be that "real tag team" that mixes it up with the thrown together teams establishing a new era of tag team action. With Aksana in their corner, Ohno & Cesaro would also have eye-candy to get them over with your average fan. Their tag team chicanery would do the rest.

Then: Edge & Rey Mysterio
Two "friends," who suddenly formed an explosive and successful tag team. Edge had been in a rivalry with Kurt Angle earlier in the year, had teamed with Hulk Hogan to win the World Tag Team Championship and was generally accepted as someone that was meant to "climb the ranks." There was no real position for him up the top of the card, however, so he did what he did best -- form a tag team. Mysterio was new to the WWE at the time, but he captured imaginations very quickly with his mask and high-flying style.

Now: Zack Ryder & Tyson Kidd
Kofi Kingston & R-Truth are essentially this sort of team, and one could easily put Sin Cara in the place of Rey Mysterio, but I feel that this team could be a huge surprise. Ryder is super-over. That much is undeniable. In the ring, he is pretty good, and could turn out great performances in time. His mic skills leave a lot to be desired, but he's got a connection with the "WWE Universe" that cannot be bought. Tyson Kidd, similarly to Ryder, has got pretty poor mic skills. That being said, Kidd is brilliant in the ring, and could just use someone that is truly over with your casual fan to help showcase that.

Plus, given Kidd's connection to Hall of Famers, Ryder & Kidd's "friendship" could grow and Ryder could ask Kidd if he could meet Bret "The Hitman" Hart, who could show up on WWE TV and give Zack his autograph. Lance Storm could come in and do the cabbage patch with Zack Ryder. This team would be entirely in line with what Ryder's persona is all about -- he's a WWE fan who wants to make it to the top. Working with Punk, Bryan, Kidd and The Kings is only going to increase Ryder's in-ring ability, and he might even learn a thing or two about promos while he's at it. "The Woo-Woo-Woo Stampede" could be quite the attraction.

On RAW, you would still have teams like Kofi Kingston & R-Truth, Epico & Primo and Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks. You'd also have teams like The Usos and Darren Young & Titus O'Neil in peripherals.

I actually think I would enjoy CM Punk & Daniel Bryan as a tag team more than I currently enjoy anything in professional wrestling.

Nice thoughts, but I honestly think the "Smackdown six" era is gone, and will never (and should never) be repeated. I would like to think though that Smackdown could usher in a "tag team" era. I honestly wouldn't really mind tag belts being exclusive to one show. Smackdown is already thought of as the wrestling show anyway.

For me, Punk and Bryan are too valuable right now to tag consistently.

They could utilise some of the following teams

The Usos, O'Neil and Young, Epico and Primo, Kings of Wrestling, Reks and Hawkins, Swagger and Ziggler, Hunico and Camacho, Kofi and R-Truth

The only thing I would say is that all those teams are young/fresh. The division might need a couple of old hands - imagine The Worlds Greatest Tag team being rehired. Also, why not pair Mysterio on his return with Sin Cara? Finally, with rumours that Alex Shelley is on his way over, could Sabin be on the way too? Even if Sabin didn't show up, I could see Shelley paired with Bourne

That could leave a pretty nice, well rounded tag division with teams like Swagger/Ziggler, Mysterio/Sin Cara and Kofi/Truth dropping in and out as required/as singles pushes allows

The Usos
O'Neil and Young
Epico and Primo
Kings of Wrestling
Reks and Hawkins
Swagger and Ziggler
Hunico and Camacho
Kofi and R-Truth
Sin Cara and Mysterio
WGTT
MCMG or Shelley/Bourne

But, all of this is more dream booking 'cos it ain't ever gonna happen

I think Bryan and Punk tag team would be too unfair to the tag team division. Even more so than the Big Show and Kane team, or the brothers of destruction team.
The thing I like about teams like The Usos and Titus and O'neil is that they really look like tag teams. I grew up during the time of Demolition, L.O.D., Killer Bees... Teams that looked like teams. I mean I even like the neon thing going on with Robbie E and T. lol! they look like a tag team.
Though it was a great run. None of those teams lasted. And only Los Guerroes had any real potential as a team(because of the name it was great).

Zack Ryder and Tyson Kidd?

DH Smith and Kidd was a good tag team.

3 right now
Motor City Machine Guns (how could they not be here)
Jimmy and Jay Uso (I really like these guys)
Debiase and Rhodes

I would love for Smackdown to become the Tag Team show. Figure that tag teams and stables are going to be good for pushing merchandise. Would really need to unify the World Titles again though.

I would also bring back Carlito and have him beat Brodus Clay and Lord Tensei in consecutive weeks for no real reason.
