Brand split
What’s going on? We have guys from SmackDown appearing on RAW every week, challenging for an opportunity at the WWE Championship. I can’t tell if certain people are on which brand. Daniel Bryan, for instance, is he on RAW now that he’s challenging for the WWE title? If he isn’t, he’s still on SmackDown, and they haven’t moved him, but they moved Alberto Del Rio to SmackDown so that he could challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship, which is obviously showing that the brand split is still exsistant, but they also kept Mark Henry on SmackDown after challenging Punk for the WWE title three weeks in a row, indicating it isn’t. I’m legit confused.

At this point the only purpose the brand split serves is to differentiate house show crews. That's about it.

Vito understands. From a kayfabe point of view, since John Laurinaitis is running both shows, it could be argued that the brand split is weaker since guys on both RAW and SmackDown! now answer to the same General Manager. Granted, the brand split was pretty much done before that, but it could be a way to re-establish it should the WWE feel the need to in the future.

What the brand split should be is Raw and then Ryback's show on Fridays.

There's still a brand split (I guess) but when Triple H brought the Supershow concept, he basically "blurred the lines" that divided each brand, so to speak. So RAW guys are still RAW guys, but will show up on Smackdown, and viceversa. It was already happening anyway. And I've been reading that CM Punk and Cena are going to show up more on Smackdown in order to help ticket sales and ratings, so, it won't stop happening any time soon.

So if you ask me, Triple H was the one who gave people what they wanted. Hence, he's the real mastermind behind the "people power" concept!

It's clever business really. The brand split means little on TV these days but by still technically having it in place they can continue to put on twice as many house shows, and keeping two world titles ensures that the fans get to see the champ at every show.

Wait until RAW goes to the permanent 3-hour shows in July. I expect that the brand split will be ending relatively soon after, to be honest.

TV matters far more than the house shows, not only because the rest of the world doesn't have the opportunity to see it live as often as the USA does, but also because house shows don't draw nowhere near as many sponsors as television does.

To see the champ on every show may be a good thing to a certain degree, but altogether, you're really only getting half a champ of the primary prize, and as we've seen, just because someone's champ doesn't mean that person is the most anticipated superstar on the show. Uniting the titles doubles that anticipation for whoever is the champ, and you can still get the draw from the most popular superstar alongside him (if he himself isn't champ).

But a World/WWE title match at house shows is a great selling point to the average casual fan that they need to market the events to. It just looks better. And promoting two world title matches on PPV is better than one.
