DISCUSSION - Could a Christopher Nolan version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ever work?
Basically, following the same formula as the Dark Knight Trilogies: A beginning, a middle, and a climatic ending. Part I can be about the beginnings of Hamato Yoshi and his rivalry with Oruku Saki. After being betrayed by Oruku Saki and being forced to make love to his penis, the movie can then show how Yoshi moves to New York and is forced to live in the sewers, etc.....and how the Ninja Turtles are ultimately created, brought up, and trained. Part II can be your prototypical Turtles vs. Shredder and henchmen.....and how Shredder is ultimately defeated/killed. Part III can be about the end and/or retirement of the Ninja Turtles. Think it could work? |

The first TNT movie is as dark as you can get with it, and still make it work.

Now, are we talking just following Nolan's three-act plot structure, or copying the whole 'dark and gritty and grounded in reality' aesthetic? Because I'm pretty positive that wouldn't work with the Turtles.

It should more like Hellboy meets the first TMNT movie if anything.

In theory, anything can "work", if everything comes together properly.
Sadly, I really think the Turtles are done. Come on, how many new cartoons/movies/toys/series have there been over the last decade. It's really not kicking up a storm as it did in the 80's, but for some reason people refuse to stop trying/believing it can still be big again. |

Infact, the only TMNT thing that I feel "worked" over the last decade was that one cartoon movie where the modern Turtles met the old Turtles. It was nothing amazing, but was a fun look at the contrasting styles of both series.

I think a David Fincher TMNT film could work. He seems like a good fit for the original source material.

Nah you can't do TMNT without the humour and Nolan's shown no sign of having that kind in his movies.
