rise and fall of WCW

So I was watching the DVD and I noticed that a few wrestlers (particularly Goldberg) place a good chunk of blame on Hogans huge ego Keeping himself in the spotlight and so on,but every time Hogan pops up his ego is a non issue. So my question is has Hogan ever admited his part in WCW's downfall if any?

He played the system perfectly, read the death of WCW, but I think its more a case of him being the scapegoat, not like he was the only one with an ego there just that he had the stroke. Don't think he's ever came out and held his hands up for it, if anything its been the generic ' we did things wrong' schtick.

^That.

When I think about Hogan really is the only one who hasn't point the figner at himself. It's always "we did this wrong" "Maybe they shouldn't have done that" stuff like that, which would have been enough, but the others being so foward with everything makes him look like the trying to act like he did nothing wrong.

Starcade 1993 main event: Ric Flair vs Vader (with Harley Race).

Hogan joins WCW - June 1994

Starcade 1994 main event: Hulk Hogan vs The Butcher

That right there is a prime example of what happened to WCW.

Hogan was huge in 94 though it'd be stupid not to put him in the mainevent...They had a damn parade when he joined.

Hall and Nashes contracts also helped killed WCW too.

Yeah one of his best things was him timing his yearly breaks to occur during the Jordan era of the NBA Playoffs.

He fooled WCW so well that WCW really thought their annual ratings decline in May/June was due to Hogan being out instead of Jordan being a massive mainstream draw at the time for the NBA.

That and the clause in Hall and Nash's contracts that said if anyone got signed to a bigger contract than them, they have to match that person's deal automatically.

lol at crediting "The Death of WCW" as a reliable source.

It was two dudes gathering all the wcw backstage rumors off the torch from the past 5 years, and making a book out of it.

Hogan didnt book the company into the ground. Hell, he Made Goldberg their biggest start.

they were a financial mess. I dont care if you didnt like Hogan putting himself at the top and politicking for it, he put asses in the seats. he didnt make them sign something like 150 wrestlers to guaranteed deals. He didnt waste the money on celebrities and shit like that.

The Company was in financial ruin, and would have lived for another 5 years probably with new management somehow. WCW died because they were pulled from TNT.

For all the talk about their Downfall, WCW was still doing 2.1 ratings every week. Byt today's standards, that is pretty damn good considering they were head to head with Raw.

Today, that same rating on a Thursday night like impact would be a 3+

The standard and practices stuff didn't help, some god awful 'hardcore' stuff during that time. Creative control as well. There were soooooo many things wrong with WCW at times but like Hanso said a 2.1 rating every week regardless.

I would venture to say that even though Hogan pulled his shit, he was the LEAST of the problems.

Flair as world champ past age 50 wasnt any better than anything Hogan was pulling.

All Boils back to management.

Ive always felt that one of the big downfalls of the company (besides going through money like water)was that WCW was a one trick pony after the nWo success they xeroxed and reformed the group on a monthly basis.

Well, I just watched it. And yes like so many people said they're were just so many huge ego's and people wanting so much money. As well as keeping the "spotlight" on the same superstars making damn near impossible for anyone else to have a shot. And if they had any kind of go they were pretty quickly fired.

Jarrett was good as WCW champ. He was a fresh face - hell, they were possibly planning on putting the belt on Tank Abbott.

I downloaded 6 years of WCW Nitro (1995 - 2001, 146 full episodes). Hogan was in every episode, but didn't really start hogging the spotlight till the nWo were created. From then on, he was pretty much featured every episode.

I like jarrett in fact hes never failed to entertain me its just that Triple H was also champ in that period and while I couldnt stand him dominating like he did he was the bad guy champ(Scott Hall not withstanding)

I'll just say this while Jeff Jarrett was a heel Triple H was a bastard.

If you ever used to go to the ECW events at the Flickinger center we most certainly sat next to each other at some point.

Ahhh, Youth. I think I was 16 or 17 at my last ECW show. Still remember one of the first ones I went to in 96 I think, was when it was ALL garbage hardcore. Hack Myers ended up in a "pirahna" tank.

Not in the last 2 years of episodes that I've been watching. In the last 12 shows I've watched, the majority of airtime have involved Sting, Hogan, Savage, and Lex Luger. I think I'm glad I missed most of this the first time around. I probably wouldn't have bothered watching at all.

They had some of the most mental gimmick matches

Like I remember this one where there was 3 hell in a cells stacked on top of each other and you had to get a straight jacket and put it on your opponent It had Steiner and 3 others IIRC, and if that wasnt clusterfucked enough Goldberg came out and speared Vince Russo thru the cage
