Getting pretty annoyed right now. I'm trying to turn off auto-renew of my Xbox gold account and it wont let me.
The "how to" shows you a step by step in which the person goes to account, clicks "change" and turns off auto-renew, easily. When I try it, it asked for a second email address so I gave my alt-email, I use for formal stuff. It then sent a code to it and asked me to put it into the box. So I got the code and put it into the box. Then it said it sent a code to my everyday email address and asked me to do what I did before, which I did. Then it sent a code to my formal email address. It's just sending me back and forth endlessly. What am I doing wrong? I'm pretty sure they do this on purpose so people don't bother trying to turn off auto-renew. |

Try about 10 different things and then ring them. They make it awkward as fuck.

Yeah, I remember having trouble with this as well, but not in the same way. Likely going to have to call them.

I do mine through their website. Never had a problem with it. If you havent recently updated your security, they will make you do crazy shit. Generally, after the verification code, you are good to go.
I havent had mine for a while now, because I participated in the beta, worst decision ever. I was unable to connect to XBL for about 2 months, getting connected maybe once a week. I will never do another Xbox Beta. |

You can cancel through the website now but give them a call anyway.

I tried doing it a while ago and just got too annoyed by it and tried again tonight and still can't get anywhere. I'd phone but I've heard you get put through to India and, considering Indian people who have lived in Scotland for years still find my accent tricky, I can't imagine it would be any easier for someone that has never been here. I'm also pretty sure that the person on the other end will be under orders to make it as difficult and as awkwards as possible for me. Pretty sure I'll end up re-enacting a variation of one of these old adverts, depending on how I try to sort this out. |

Indians cannot pronounce my first or last name, from my experience over the phone with tech support. You would, most likely, be fucked.

I don't even use any kind of card for XBL except for prepaid ones for this very reason. They do make it a circus getting out of it, showing shades of vintage AOL. I believe there was an option in the dashboard itself in the account settings, I could be wrong.
I'd still try giving them a call; I got some latin woman last time. Kind of hot, really. |

I hate auto-renewal features, that's how Sony robbed me of £9.99 when I tried a free demo of music unlimited only to find it had signed me up for a subscription service.

I've tried to, multiple times. Like I said, it just puts me in a loop. It sends a code to one email. I enter the code. It sends another code to my other email. I enter the code and then it just sends another code to the first email.
There is no way out of the loop. |

I tried again. This time, I went to "contact us", hoping to email someone and ask them to do it.
Instead, I had to select what the issue was from a drop down menu. This took me to a sub menu and then another sub menu. When I finally had established that I wanted to turn off auto-renew, a little green button popped up at the bottom of the screen saying "Turn off auto-renew". So, I clicked it, thinking it would turn off auto-renew. Instead it took me to the page that has my account info which then lead back to the loop! |

The site has different behaviours for different people, sometimes arbitrarily, sometimes based on country and state. Don't bother asking on Xbox forums for help, they are full of cretins who can't imagine this concept.
