TNA switching to 4 live PPVs per year
From PWInsider:
As PWInsider.com broke last year, TNA planned to reduce PPVs down from their usual 12 live broadcasts a year. Well, TNA has cut their 2013 PPV schedule even more drastically than initially planned. Going forward, the company will produce only four live PPVs in 2013: Genesis in January, airing this Saturday 1/13 Lockdown on 3/10 Slammiversary on 6/9 Bound for Glory in October on 10/13 The remaining months, the company will instead produce taped PPVs that will be titled under the "TNA:One Night Only" banner, airing on the first Friday evening of the month before and replaying over the remainder of the. Those shows will remain three hours. In a press release just issued, TNA President Dixie Carter commented, "The Pay-Per-View industry has changed so much in the last decade,” says TNA President Dixie Carter. “The traditional Pay-Per-View wrestling model needed to evolve and we believe this strategy will positively impact not only the Pay-Per-View events but the weekly television programming as well." PWInsider.com is working to confirm whether there will be any pricing changes on the PPVs going forward. TNA's press release did not specify any changes. The company will also produce six "Unfinished Business" PPV specials focusing on older TNA feuds. TNA will tape their first "One Night Only" PPV specials this Saturday. The first, airing on 2/1 will be X-Division themed. The second will feature a Joker's Wild Tag Team tournament theme and will air 3/1. The final decision on the PPV plans were made just days ago. Originally the three hour specials were designed for international markets that would lose PPVs. Spike did not come on board to air the three hour specials domestically and earlier this week, the company was mulling over different options on how to roll out that material to fans. --- I think this is probably a good move overall. Too many PPVs tend to make feuds go faster than they really should. I think WWE should adopt a similar policy, and maybe just do specials on the off-months. ![]() |

I liked the PPV quality shows they put on during the brand specific PPV era of the split so this might actually get me into catching TNA again.

The four live-shows sound a like a better way for them to focus and book their brand.
If the ppv specials are priced similar to an On-Demand film rental I don't see that as a bad concept. |

Speaking of pricing...
From PWInsider: The newly announced TNA Friday night PPVs will be priced at $14.95. TNA Genesis and TNA Lockdown will still be priced at $34.95. TNA Slammiversary and all live PPVs that follow will now be priced at $39.95. TNA Bound for Glory will be the exception to that rule, since it always had a higher price point, and will now be priced at $44.95. The TNA Unfinished Business PPV pricing will remain the same. |

BFG better have a heck of a card and not take place from the Impact Zone if they want to get to near WM level pricing to order it.

That's regular WWE PPV pricing. Going by that, it's fair.
Of course, WWE PPVs are overpriced in general... |

Under no circumstances do I see myself ever paying $44.95 for a TNA ppv.

STOP EVERYTHING. How is the X-Division Champ supposed to wrestle for the World Title at 'Destination X'... |

Charging for taped PPVs seems kinda redundant, although nobody was paying for live ones so I guess it doesn't matter.

We get them for free so this news does not IMPACT me in the slightest, might as well throw a "lol TNA" in here though.

Really hope they at least make Destination X one of the taped PPV's. Or else the awesome storyline from last year with Aries is really meaningless now.

On the otherhand I do think this is a good idea, they don't really make much money off of their PPV's, do they? The same people who already buy them will buy them regaurdless of spoilers.

Just read the front page thing about the themed specials and the notion that they'll be taping some in January and airing them in April and May.
The only way this could be gayer would be if homosexual intercourse would actually be featured on these shows. And it probably will. Can't wait to witness the spectacle of Hulk Hogan and Bubba the Love Spong reconciling in the butt. |

Hopefully this means they stop their bad habit of using ppvs to set up for Impact instead of the other way around.
Seems like a bad idea to tape several specials at once because they could end up with the same problem WCW once had where wrestlers who were injured or fired ended up showing a week or so later on tv. |

It wouldn't be bad if they weren't months in advance. There's no way to predict who could get injured in that amount of time. What if someone dies for crying out loud?

Can't say I'd pay money to see who becomes the World Champion of Florida. I wish they'd get out of the impact zone.

Yeah can see this coming back to haunt them eventually, bad enough with spoilers a few days in advance but weeks/months. At least the editing guys can look forward to plenty of overtime covering up the injuries/firings that happen between showings.

Once again, TNA tries too hard to reinvent the wheel.
This pre-taped bullshit will fail miserably. Just cut your losses and air 4 PPVs and instead of doing "Open Fight Night" or "Champions Choice Night" every month build them up for weeks and make it more special when that edition of iMPACT! comes on. TNA's base audience hasn't changed much in years. They hardly buy PPVs now when they are live and built to. No matter how cheap they make them, why the fuck would they buy a pre-taped PPV when they didn't buy real PPV cards. Stupid. They aren't really reducing PPV shows as much as they are just making them cheap and worthless. So now, when a real PPV card comes (BFG/Slammiversary/etc.) it will look better in comparison just because it isn't a glorified episode of WCW Worldwide that is $14. |
