"Rowdy" Roddy Piper
I know it's been a while, but was anyone else bothered by his release from the WWE? I was just watching an old tape, and that's what got me thinking. I'm going to post below the official statement from their website, which you probably saw before, but I would also like to say that I think the statement is bull>shit. Supposedly one of the reasons they released Piper was so that he wouldn't engage in "self destructive behavior." But in a recent interview, Bruno Sammartino said the real reason was because Piper couldn't draw anymore. What do you think about that? Let's talk about Piper. Here's the statement -
Since March 31, 2003, World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (“WWE”) and Roderick Toombs, a/k/a “Roddy Piper”, have attempted to negotiate the terms of an arrangement for Roddy to appear on WWE programming through August of this year. The parties have been unable to reach a mutually acceptable agreement. On Tuesday, June 24, Piper appeared on an HBO program and revealed disturbing facts about his own personal drug use. Piper stated that he used drugs for many years while working in professional wrestling and that he does not like the person that he becomes when he actively performs as a professional wrestler. In view of WWE’s inability to reach agreement on a contract and to assist Piper from engaging in any self destructive behavior, the WWE is ending any further discussion with Piper regarding a contract. The WWE sincerely hopes for Piper and his family that Roddy can find happiness. (wwe.com) |

I was a fan of Piper's around the 91/92 time. Loved the Survivor Series match involving Piper and Flair, also the Wrestlemania 8 Intercontinental title match.

Piper is one of the greatest heels of all time. He was also one of the greatest mic workers of all time. They should have kept him, Piper is the man. He's one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time.

If I were ever to wrestle, I would have a NATURAL feud with the Hot Rod.
You see, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper has haunted me my entire life. I heard his name for the whole of my existence. You see, my name is also Rowdy, and you can guess what the source of this torment is... That bit of personal info aside, I would prefer to be referred to as Vastardikai again from here on out. |

You wanna see some good Piper, watch Roddy bitching out Russo in NWA/TNA. I also hear he did a shoot, but can't find it.

I have nothing but respect for the Hot Rod, I really do. But then again, you've never had people calling you "Rowdy" Roddy Piper throughout School and stuff. (some people even did it at work. I've gotten used to it now, and I'll even joke about it. But it seriously used to piss me off)

Piper is one of the most classic heels I've ever seen. Letting him slip away last year was one of the biggest mistakes the WWE has made in a while.
I say try to bring him back, not in a wrestling capacity, his body's shot, but he could still be used to get someone over as hell. Or just give him the Piper's Pit again. |

I agree with this and I was abig fan of Piper's but unfortunately Piper's last stint I feel was part of the reasonn as to why the WWE didn't continue the massive push that Sean O'haire seemed about ready to get |
