Idea for the Orton Revolution

Orton is the man, arguably the best guy WWE has in the ring, no question in the top five. The man does one thing that nobody has been able to do in years, and that is make the audience pop like mad with simple in ring psychology. All of which is based around the most solid set of wrestling moves any one guy has, on the roster currently, and maybe ever.

The way that Orton gets an average audience to pop for some of his moves like the hanging DDT, or the whip powerslam is unreal and makes every match he is in, better than the others around it.

For years now Randy has been stifled in a mid card position, and nobody can be blamed but himself. But if he is a leader and has his head on straight he is huge money for WWE and a great character for fans to enjoy.

This is my idea for the Orton Revolution....

At Wrestlemania 29 in New Jersey, Orton is picked to be on a wildcard team of often at odd enemies when he teams with Shemus and The Big Show to take on The Shield in tag team action. While Randy is the stand out in the match, Sheamus take the loss. Afterward Orton is obviously frustrated and leaves Wrestlemania with another lack luster loss.

In the main event John Cena is able to sneak the WWE Championship away from The Rock.

The next night when The Rock is explaining his failure to keep The People happy at Wrestlemania, The Shield appears and destroys The Great One.

The next week on Raw we see announced that in one week time The Rock and John Cena will have their first face to face showdown since Wrestlemania.

On Raw, in the face to face, both The Rock and Cena are attacked by The Shield, effectively standing tall each member of The Shield is surprised with none other than The Viper has slithered his way undetected into the ring and hits a few clothslines and an RKO to make the save.

At Extreme Rulez it is announced that a street fight will take place between the star studded team of WWE Champion John Cena and former champs The Rock and Randy Orton taking on the undefeated Shield.

PPV time, match is closing in on a finish. The babyfaces are up, as The Rock is about to bring it home with The Peoples Elbow on Dean Ambrose, and just as the last moment from out of left field is intercepted by an Orton RKO. While in a moment of shock John Cena watches as Dean Ambrose covers The Rock, and gets the 123.

The Rock goes off to film a movie or two with Orton completes his turn to heel on Raw the next night. Explaining how he has been looked over for years and finally had to stand up and take back what was his. He is the man of WWE not The Rock, and not John Cena.

Over the summer Cena and Orton feud to the point of victory and a title win for Orton. This sets up The Rock's return at Summerslam and either a singles match with Orton or a triple threat with Cena in the mix.

That's the best way to turn Orton for me. I know some of you guys are not a fan of Cena/Orton but I sure am. Their last feud was the turn of WWE for the better, in regard to the last 10 or so years. WWE hasn't had a feud with that much hatred between characters in a long time. I will never forget how Orton tried to murder Cena in a last man standing match one time by blowing him up with pyro.

It's a good start... and I dare say most fans care more about Orton than about Ryder. Long-term booking? I know that might risk "TL;DR" but I always read long posts.

I stopped reading after the first line. Not because it was a long post, but after the opening statement I didn't think I could take the rest of it seriously.

It is decent enough to read.

Really, it all boils down to his 2 current strikes. Take those away and the WWE would be giving Orton feuds that matter.

He's so good at it I regularly see him picking someone up from the middle of the ring and "helping" them into position for the hanging DDT. Wait... isn't that the opposite of ring psychology?

I think Orton needs to be built up before going right in against Cena. Have him be pissed at Sheamus for taking the fall at WM. Orton can cry that he should be in Sheamus's spot right now but is being held down. Then Orton goes over Sheamus for a few months and then faces Cena at SummerSlam.

I've been enjoying Orton's work lately. In the ring, he can be really good. His character is a bit stale now, but he's what we asked for -- a babyface that didn't lose everything that made him cool when he turned from the darkside.

This the problem with Orton as a heel, though -- how do you take a dude that is essentially a bad guy anyway and somehow position this audience that is so into him against him? Your scenario with The Rock makes sense in that regard.

At WrestleMania, I'd definitely put The Shield over Sheamus, Orton & Show. I sort of expected Orton to turn at WrestleMania, frustrated at Big Show and Sheamus letting him down. I have a feeling that a heel Orton might still be more over than face Sheamus and Big Show though -- and that's not a criticism of those guys -- Orton is just white hot with the crowd.

I'd have Orton turn on Sheamus and Big Show at Mania and then take out Big Show on RAW or Main Event that week. Orton can go nuts with a steel chair on Show or something. This gives Big Show some post-Mania time off to prolong his career, and it adds heat to the heel Orton machine. At Extreme Rules, Orton and Sheamus can have a feature Extreme Rules Match where they just let it all hang loose in an environment that suits both their styles. Orton wins that match cleanly (well, as cleanly as any of these sorts of matches go). Maybe then you can bring back a pissed off Big Show for Payback in Chicago?
