MMA fighters in Pro Wrestling
So with Rampage Jackson also apart of TNA, what are your thoughts on guys like King Mo, Rampage, and possibly Stephan Bonar (all established MMA fighters) deciding to become pro wrestlers?

Guys like Shamrock made it work, it depends how they're presented really, you have to walk that line of presenting them as 'real' fighters pretty finely.

Pretty much agree with whitey. Build them up properly and it could work.

It also depends how good they actually are at "wrestling". It's all well and good coming in and being a badass MMA fighter and throwing punches and kicks, but if they bump like shit and don't know anything about the basics of pro-wrestling, then it'll still likely be the drizzling shits.

If these MMA fighters go to TNA, their careers won't amount to much. I'm sorry, but it's true.
Now, if they went to WWE, I'm sure it'd be better for them and the jump from MMA to wrestling would get more press as well. But going to TNA? No one cares. |

Saw the segment last night, Rampage is a bit green on the mic, hope they give him some time to train a bit.

How many legitimate athletes have made it in professional wrestling I wonder.
Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Paul Wight...think of it not as something so specific as "mma fighters in pro-wrestling" think of it in the light of extremely athletic people being trained to be professional wrestlers. He could suck, but he could also be amazing. Might even move onto the WWE eventually if it's worth it for him. |

I would love to have seen Alistair Overeem interrupt Cena/Rock match at Mania by jumping into the ring and kneeing both in the face, grabbing the mic and saying,
"It's OVER....eem!" Then Overeem goes on a goldberg like winning streak, beating EVERYONE... and only one man can stop him. THE UNDERTAKER! Undertaker Vs Overeem main events next wrestlemania. Taker comes out in MMA gloves and gear while Overeem comes down with druids wearing a cloak. Would be EPIIIIIIC!!!!! |

He utilized slams and briefly explained his love for wrestling.
I was against him until last night, Kurt Angle looks to be his first bout, and he seems to fit in with everything. |

I could see Quinton being a good wrestler. He's a great natural athlete, strong as all fuck and has always watched. Probably picked up a lot of stuff in Japan too, as MMA and pro wrestling damned near go hand in hand there.

This also may or may not work factoring in WHY he's there. If Rampage wants to transition into pro wrestler as a career move, there's no reason he couldn't fit, much like Miz, or Shamrock.
However, if he's simply there as a cross-promotional tool with MMA, or if he's just a one-off, "mainstream crossover" in the vein of Lawrence Taylor or Dennis Rodman or in TNA's case with Pacman Jones, this will likely come off as yet another TNA shoehorned publicity stunt. |

I remember reading in Foley' autobiography about how a lot of legitimate athletes got screwed by trainers trying to make the business look "tough". They'd purposely break legs and arms of guys if they had athletic backgrounds.

Well if you're talking about any old person who laces up a pair of boots and joins a backwater $100 training camp, then yeah, there are probably a lot of scubs. But all the guys in the big leagues, going back decades were all legit athletes. A lot of them on the collegiate level. Some even pro.

Billy Robinson former AWA wrestler was notorious for doing that. He used to really hurt people, as did Hiro Matsuda.

Impact Wrestling and Bellator feed each other, which was the plan since Zuffa and Spike split.. Thats why Rampage and King Mo are there.. They are also both amatuer wrestlers, Lawal being more legit than Rampage..
Theyve had beef for a while and can see them fighting when the next season of Bellator starts.. |

Didn't Hiro Matsuda break Hogan's leg while training him? And then Hogan came back anyway, because he's the fucking Immortal Hulk Hogan?
