Discuss, was Curt Henning a World Heavyweight Champion?

Would you consider Curt Henning a World Heavyweight Champion? I would consider him a world champion because he won the AWA Title in 1987. The reason I would consider the AWA title a world title because the AWA World Title was still being defended overseas so I would still consider it a world championship even though the AWA's heyday was almost gone. Kinda why I would still consider the NWA Heavyweight Title a world title today (it was defended in NJPW in June)

I consider him a world champ, yeah.

He was a good heel in the dying days of AWA.

If it were today's world of wrestling, no doubt in my mind he would have been a multiple WWE and Heavyweight champion. But the belts seemed to mean so much more back in the day, something you had to earn. Not like today's WWE where it's used as a prop. Damn shame is what it is.

But yes, I consider Perfect as a world champion and one of the best charismatic superstars of all time.

Now that's PERFECT

He was an Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion in the early '90s which makes him a modern day World Heavyweight Champion.

No because the AWA was like the TNA of the 80s (You can tell because they both end with "A")

But yeah, the AWA was a World Title. Don't forget that there was a time when the WWF and the AWA were at the same crossroads. Vince took the correct path, while Verne stood on his head and shit all over himself. AWA was more like WCW; they had their big heyday as THE promotion, then everything went to shit and McMahon became the clear winner. The TNA comparison would only be valid if TNA ever HAD a heyday.

Totally see Axel coming back as a Mr Perfect style character down the line. If not in name too.

For me, with Ted DiBiase, this guy was one of the best heels ever. Ziggler is the only person today that comes close to Hennig's style of cockiness and swagga.

I am a huge Henning mark, but in early 90's WWF? It pains me to say no. I think in WCW he could have had a good chance, but not WWF. It wasn't that he didn't have the ability or the charisma, but it was was a big man's company back then. But if he was active around 95-96? No question. I would have loved to have seen a World Championship program with him and Bret at that time. But by then his injuries were catching up to him and he was working a much lighter schedule. Shame. In my opinion him and Dibiase are the two greatest WWE talents never to win the world title.

Axel should stay as far away from mimicking his dad's gimmick as possible, much like DiBiase Jr it will only further accentuate how absolutely dire he is by comparison.

No. And that's why a bunch of weird fans even like his son in the slightest, because of the romanticised idea that he can be what his dad was, and go further and achieve the highest goal of the world title that his dad potentially deserved.

It was defended globally so I guess so, same way TNA has a world title, nut Vince owns the AWA now so I guess he'll decide ultimately.
