Who would really win in a knock-down drag out fight between all the members (I know they had some crossover but not sure how much they fought).

The problem with this hypothetical matchup is that there's a huge definition of what both teams might actually be. Both have had pretty sprawling lineups at times whereas other times they've been really small. Depends on what we're talking size wise on each side.

Well, The X-Men's the better team and yet the Avengers are cool too despite most of them have powers, why do they even need Nick Fury and The Shield and Black Widow considering they only have the abilities of shoot em up and martial arts specialists with no lightning or electric powers? Thanos is a mutant member of the race of superhumans known as the Titanian Eternals. The character possesses abilities common to the Eternals, but amplified to a higher degree through a combination of his mutant Eternal heritage, bionic amplification, mysticism, and the entity Death. Demonstrating enormous superhuman strength, stamina, and durability, Thanos can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy and is capable of telekinesis, telepathy and matter manipulation. Thanos is an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant, having been trained in the art of war on Titan.
Thanos is a genius in virtually all known fields of advanced science and has created technology far exceeding contemporary Earth science. He often employs a transportation chair capable of space flight, force field projection, teleportation, time travel and movement through alternate universes. Thanos is also a master strategist and uses a space vessel called Sanctuary II as a base of operations.

Apocalypse is an ancient mutant born with a variety of superhuman abilities who further augmented himself after merging with Celestial technology. The character has total control over the molecules of his body, enabling him to alter his form as it suits him,[68] such as allowing his body to become extremely malleable and flexible or change its size, enhance his physical abilities, transform his limbs into weapons or wings and jets, regenerate from fatal injuries, adapt his body to apparently any disease or hostile environment and give himself virtually any physical superhuman power.[69] The character is also able to project and absorb energy, and has displayed telepathy and telekinesis. Apocalypse is as well capable of technopathy, able to directly interface with the various technologies he has at his disposal. Apocalypse is also immortal, and immune to aging, not needing sustenance of any kind and can survive fatal injuries. Whether this ability is a part of his mutant powers, or developed as a result of his merging with celestial technology is unclear.
Aside from his superhuman powers, Apocalypse is extraordinarily intelligent,[70] a scientific genius with knowledge in various areas of science and technology including physics, engineering, genetics and biology, that is far more advanced than conventional science.[71] Apocalypse has knowledge of Celestial technology that he uses for his own applications, such as altering mutants or humans. Apocalypse is also a skilled demagogue and a master strategist.[72]
Apocalypse's blood can heal other mutants, but is fatal for humans. Apocalypse's blood can also restore his de-powered mutant descendants as is seen when a large dose of Apocalypse's blood regenerates the lost body part of Chamber and gave him a look similar to Apocalypse.[73]


Might be a pretty even fight provided the gauntlet is not involved.

Thor v. Wolverine: Thor would kick Wolverine's ass, but then Wolverine would just heal.


Iron Man v. Colossus: Going to have to give this to Iron Man. Colossus has the advantage of his armor not being able to break, or run out of power... but Tony would somehow just outsmart the dude.


Hulk v. Jean Grey w/ Phoenix Force: Phoenix for sure.


Cyclops v. Captain America: Captain America would pretty much clobber Cyclops.


Scarlet Witch v. Storm: Storm would win if she is against "Bad Luck Causing" Scarlet Witch, and would lose if up against Reality Warping Scarlet Witch.


Iron Fist v. Nightcrawler: Again, Iron First would probably win. Nightcrawler would get his initial hits in, but then Danny would use his super kung-fu skills to "anticipate" Nightcrawler's next jump.


Ultron v. Magneto: Like I said, Magneto vs giant metal robot favors Magento.


Thanos v. Apocalypse: Thanos.


Ms Marvel v. Emma Frost: Emma Frost would win via cleavage. Also telepathy.

I think for the same reason Byrne tried to add human castmates to the X-men in the late 70's early 80's, to show that no matter how powerful these beings were they had the same hopes, dreams and need for contact as "normal" humanity

X-Men were my early favourites (then again we only had 3 books released by Marvel here back in the day - X-men, Spiderman and Punisher.)

But I grew to love the Avengers over the years.
