Should they recycle the gimmick? 1


Been looking for a new series of posts and lets see how this one works out. So when I was young, I always hated Yokozuna (and he was a heel, so he did his job). Looking at the gimmick as an adult, it was a pretty intricate gimmick. He had Fuji, Cornette, never spoke any real English and Yoko learned how to do some of the sumo mannerism to make people believe that he was this grand sumo champion from Japan. So looking at the landscape of American professional wrestling, should someone recycle the gimmick and debut under a "sumo champion" gimmick? The trick would have to be, with tons of information on the internet, they would probably have to use somebody who actually was a sumo wrestler. I looked and there have been a few guys in Japan that have gone from Sumo wrestling to professional wrestling (I think Akebono is still floating around...). I looked at some of the more successful sumos and they seem to be closer to the 300-350 lb mark and built more like a lineman.

Yokozuna was a fantastic heel, but no. Lol the internet would have a meltdown for workrate related reasons.

No. I firmly believe that it's one of those gimmicks that works once and anybody else that tried would always have that comparison hanging over them. It's a gimmick that only worked because of the person playing the role.

Gimmicks like patriot, ladies man, hardcore wrestlers, etc. can easily be recycled.

I'm thinking as far as just the idea of the gimmick, not just some guy named Yoko 2 Electric Boogloo. The gimmick of the giant sumo grand champion with an entourag and everything.
So what are some other gimmicks or even angles you'd like to see as apart of these posts?
