KG

i didn't even know he said the 'ready for war' speech but what are your thoughts on it? but at least he did apologize.

btw, i just heard Brad Miller's response and he was mocking KG- he was all like "i got my bow and arrow, my 4x4, i'm ready!" with a big ass grin on his face. that was dumb as hell.

He listed off a bunch of weapons he's taking to war.

Of course, he was just using metaphor, but there are a lot of people out there who think he should get in trouble for this -- like it takes away from his standing as a role model (seems he's getting more flack than Kobe is getting for raping a chick... Kobe has people making death threats on his behalf).

I think it's pathetic. Even Miller knows it's not meant seriously, how can anyone take it as such?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

This morning on ESPN they were talking about how a bunch of the US players pulled out from the Olympic team because they had other commitments or whatever and Vlade was saying that playing for his country is his biggest committment.

Got to respect that a lot.

Well when you come from that kind of place, in that kind of situation, your priorities change.

Check out Manute Bol. He's whoring himself out on his name and image, making a total fool out of himself to earn enough money to send home to the Congo. That's ****ing sweet. The hockey thing, the boxing match... it's bittersweet.

Every time I get sick of the huge egos, even huger contracts, and the rest of the filth that is sometimes a part of pro athletes, something always happens that reminds me why I love sports.

I was watching the Olympics one year. Track & Field. A runner from a country in Africa. From some destitute area where being a world-class sprinter was his only hope of ever having anything resembling a real life. He has spent his whole life training for the next 30 seconds. Half way around the track, a tendon explodes and he collapses. Life long dream, over. But he gets up and starts gimping around the track. No chance of winning, no endorsement deals, no reason to go on except that he didn't want to end the race on his back. It's painful to watch. but he goes and goes and whe it looks like he's going toquit, his dad comes running out of the seats and grabs hima round the waist and they finish together.

I have no relationship with my dad. i thikn the crowd was going bonkers, but I'm not sure because ii was crying like a baby.

That kind of shit right there, that ability to transcend the fact that its ust a game and to become an example of human spirit, that's why I love sports.

KG is a great guy. On and off the court, everything the NBA could hope for in an MVP. He said something stupid and then he apologized. Lets just move on to Game 7.

I'm pretty sure that happened to a British sprinter - he wasn't from Africa he just happened to be black.

Well Vlade has an excuse.

And if KG was to say something about marrying a jealous psychopath, then I could understand Doug Christie being offended. Or like, talking about calling a timeout when you have none.

By the way, imagine the irony if the Wolves had lost game 3 because KG tried calling a time out and would have gotten a T.

I saw the comments on the news the other day when they happened, and the sports guy noted that they were obviously made as a metaphor, but that the media would catch up on this, and now it has. Thats kind of lame. I am pretty sure that war terminology is commonday in sports. This is one of those situations where people are just getting offended because they think its their duty, he didn't mock the war, he didn't downplay the war, all he did was say he would have a full artilery for game seven, just in a few more words.

Well I wasn't offended, but I have had close relatives in war (Not Iraq - ones that actually meant something you know) so I think it was out of line I guess? I mean like Vlade said he knows nothing about war, and if he did he probably wouldn't have made them.

More of a sign of his not thinking before he talks thing. He seems to do that though.

1-4 from the line... Miller had all the momentum leading into this game, after a huge win two nights before and the knowledge that he was inside the Wolves' head.

That wasn't good enough to give him heart last night though... he proved that in his first season as a King he inherited their choking ability and complete lack of heart.

The Wolves had KG and Sam playing with 150% heart out there, and the Kings had Christie and to a lesser extent C-Webb trying to win that game, but Christie alone couldn't compete.

Seemed like a storm in a teacup.

He said something, he apologised, move on and play the game, which he did.

Vlade's committment to playing for his country is great. It's sad that it takes something like what has happened in the former Yugoslavia to get that sort of committment out of someone. Would be great is all players felt that sort of committment to their country. Basketball-wise it's understandable how much it means to him, I mean he couldn't even stand on the podium at the world championships (i think it was) without the political situation being brought up, with the Croatian team refusing to stand on the same podium as the Yugoslavian team.

Getting back to KG, he responded in the best way possible, taking out the series.

I have a feeling that I am being ignorant here, so can somebody explain to me how what he said was disrespectful to soldiers?

I may not know everything about the situation, but basically I got that he used war analogies, and I thought that was common play in sports talk.
