IMO it's one of those situations where I hope we don't reflect on his career, talking about the attitude era, then joking about how bad he looked in his "comeback", wishing he didn't do it so it could "preserve" his legacy.

I'm wondering if he missed the boat on the comeback. I want to have faith that he does have a great final match, but I'm thinking this should have happened a couple of years earlier. Isn't he now 50 or older?

The problem is, he would be watered down. It would be like non-alcoholic beer. I'm sure he still can go but maybe if it's one last match with The Rock or having a match with Lesnar that he walked out on, it could be good. Austin/Rock have amazing in ring chemistry that could make it work.

I remember the last Shawn Michaels/Undertaker match being billed as an ode to the Attitude era, like an official goodbye to that with 2 of the major stars from that time. I mean it would be massive for Stone Cold to come back, that would bring a lot of lost fans back into the mold and have a chance to snag some of them back up. I think he would put on a great show with CM Punk, especially if they start the feud with Stone Cold calling CM Punk out at a PPV a few weeks down and they battled it out.

Appearances are different from actually returning. They let The Rock get away with more but he was still somewhat controlled.

well what is it in the match that would be watered down? all of his Stone Cold stuff is character driven. The wrestling would still be the same?

He hasn't been healthy for a while towards the end of his run, now with years to rest his body, I'd bet decent money that he could still put on a hell of a match

I remember most early Attitude Era PPV's being garbage except for the Austin match that saved the PPV. He couldn't wrestle to his full ability due to injuries but adapted and still put on good matches with his ring psychology.

Nope. Attitude Era had a solid card overall. Everybody was a fully developed character with motivation and knew who they were.

Honestly, i wouldn't mind a 'showcase' one match type situation. WWE needs big names at the moment, and SCSA could very well help them out in that regard. But, i'm not too sure on a full time / part time return. Nostalgia does sell, but it also brings with it the criticism of the current product being too stale.
I wonder if he'll put someone over. Considering what i've heard on the podcast, i hope its Cesaro, in some fashion. |

I was watching some of the early Attitude Era PPV's and the thin roster really showed for example at OTE 98 and Fully Loaded 98 but they did have some solid ones like KOTR98 or Summerslam 98. I would say the best PPV of the year was obviously Survivor Series. Deadly Games was some of the best storytelling I've seen. The rare double turn. After such a great PPV, the turd called Rock Bottom reminded me of NOC this year after Summerslam.

Had it been a few years ago, Punk vs Stone Cold would have been a good idea and tie nicely into a couple of WWE games that used or hyped it as a dream feud.

I'd love to see Austin v Ambrose since I can't have CM Punk. I love Ambrose as a face but I am chomping at the bit for his heel turn.

the only person it'd actually be fun seeing Austin wrestle on the roster is Brock, everyone else would be pretty fucking underwhelming at this point, nobody has enough momentum as a heel because they don't book 99.99% of the roster strong enough. Don't get me wrong, long term, Austin vs Brock is a horrendous idea and that spot should be reserved for you next big star, but what's the point of bringing back Austin to wrestle a Seth Rollins or someone like that? I mean I love Seth Rollins, he's a great worker and performer, but he's not a marquee crossover type name and it'd just be Austin vs. a guy who looks kind of like a stripper and nobody would care.
You could use him against Bray Wyatt, and hell it'd be interesting, but it wouldn't have that spark. Pretty much the only way it works is if they start booking their heels strong, and I mean VERY strong, and give them a chance to build into something more than a guy who is reading from a script and playing the character he's being told to play on that given night. Dare I say, they start actually planning something? |

Austin vs Ambrose would be amazing too. This is my idea. Nobody else has suggested this. All my original thought.

Honestly I'd watch any match out of curiosity (lets see how fucked up Austin is) but
1. Austin/Punk would be a mark out to watch - in a take my ball home match...loser has to stay in the wwe. 2. Austin vs vince one more time - would be super nostalgic. 3. shawn Michaels out of retirement to retire steve officially 4. I DO NOT WANT to see HHH involved with Austin |

For what it's worth, Austin has said on his podcast that, if he got himself into top ring shape, he believes he could do the full rigorous WWE schedule for 2-3 years if he absolutely had to.
I can't see him working THAT much but it's worth noting, it might be more than a one-off match. He also said that had the neck complications not forced him into retirement in 2003 he thinks he would have kept going until around 2010-2011 or so before calling it quits. So he clearly feels there is still gas in the tank. |

God, I'd love to see Austin come back. Tons of options for him. Brock, Cena, Punk if he comes back, Orton, Bryan, etc. There's plenty for him to do to sustain another run.

If Punk really left because he didn't agree with part-timers coming in and taking Wrestlemania spots, then he came back to face Steve Austin at Wrestlemania, it'd be pretty silly.
