Last Sunday's Simpsons episode

Anyone else think that this ep was the best one in a long time?

The satire was humorous and relevant.

Post your thoughts.

"I'm the last registered Democrat! TAX AND SPEND TAX AND SPEND *maniacal laughing*"

*Bart singing* "Americans are brave and loyal/ so pipe down jerks and give us your oil"

Nash Castor was hilarious.

"You're under arrest for violating the Government Knows Best Act!"

"Clinton: I want my Washington Post!"
Guard: Here's your Washington Post, Clinton! *sprays him with hose* HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT?!"

"Elmo: Elmo went to the wrong fundraiser"

"French Sailor: Hawhaw, We're from France! We hate America too!"

didn't see it, gimme the basic plot outline

This has been the first season where I haven't cared to watch any episodes. I'm finding myself watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition instead

I tried watching the new Simpsons episodes again for the first time in over a year just a couple weeks ago, and I found it bland and the jokes too forced. It's like Matt Groening has lost his edge and forgotten what the Simpsons is all about.

It's shot day and Bart tries to evade the needle. Dr. Hibbert manages to get the job done but Bart suffers a side effect of temporary hearing loss from the shot and he takes advantage of it for all it's worth. At Springfield Elementary the annual Donkey basketball tournament is being held. During the playing of The Star Spangled Banner Bart has his shorts eaten by a donkey, leaving his bare ass exposed towards the flag. Martin snaps a picture and everyone present is outraged at this behavior. As a result the Simpson family becomes very unpopular. They go on a cable news channel and only manage to dig themselves into a deeper hole when the host manages to twist Marge's words into saying that Springfield hates America. The negative publicity causes Mayor Quimby to change the name of the town to Liberty-Ville and they make everything patriotic. The family is arrested under violation of the "government knows best act" and they are brought to a reeducation center. The last registered Democrat tells them how they can escape. During their musical number they escape through a tunnel but find they were on Alcatraz. They are rescued by a passing French freighter and taken to France. After being there a while they decide they miss their life in America and go back as illegal immigrants.

Yea, it was the best they've had in a while. However, that doesn't say much when you're comparing it to and all singing Evita parody and an episode where Homer becomes "Pie Man." It's one of the few this season that I actually enjoyed, Willy reading lips was pretty funny

Every single new episode for the last few seasons has been awful. It feels like a new show trying way too hard to be like The Simpsons rather than The Simpsons.

The episode where Homer was a super hero a few weeks ago was great. I hate episodes like last weeks when the show gets all political and such. The super hero episode kinda reminded me of the glory days though.

It's true that some of The Simpsons episodes have seemed a bit forced this year, but they are still the most fresh comedic show on television right now. I can't think of one other show that'll make me laugh out loud four or five times in a half hour.

Sounds pretty dire frankly, but I've not seen it and it would be unfair of me to make rash assumptions until then.

Am I the only one who watches religously when there are new episodes? (I also watch the reruns Monday-Fri and try to catch the reruns of the last season on Sundays, too) Cause I have tried not to miss one in years... I started watching when I was about 4 or 5, first episode I saw was the first Thanksgiving special, which still remains a favorite of mine...

Anyways, I liked the episode... It had its moments... Elmo committed sucide

I only really watch the new episodes out of habit.

I haven't had one do more than a couple passing chuckles in ages, but I'm so used to watching at that time slot.

I watch a ton of the reruns, including having seasons 2+3 on DVD. Seriously, the new stuff is a massive letdown.
