Normally I would vote Steamboat because imo Nash seemed nothing more than a goon and in early Hogan WWF he probably would have been used, abused and sent packing like most of Hogans victims.

This is the first time it appears I am in the minority. There's a charm to Nash, I'm not going to deny it. God, not in Nashvember. But he was the drizzling shits in the ring. At some point, ring skill does matter. Nash often could not perform up to the level he was pushed at. He was the lowest drawing WWF Champion of all-time up to a point, and although SCG Radio has educated me on the fact that television ratings were quite good under him, the metrics in use at a time made him a failed experiment. A lot of that was Vince's booking, sure, and it's likely Steamboat wouldn't have done as well in that position either, but let's put each guy in their own realms.

Nash was a hit with the nWo. That was really it. Apart from that, he is just generally entertaining in interviews and such. And when it comes to the nWo, that wasn't the instant success that common belief holds it up to be. Was it a huge part of the Attitude era's overall success? Sure. But ratings didn't immediately start to climb for WCW just because Nash was there.

I'm only mentioning this stuff because it's the best way to judge Nash. He was a star in wrestling, and the brightness of that star is how to evaluate his success. I had heard of him by 1999 and didn't hear much about wrestlers, so I'd definitely consider him "mainstream," but Steamboat's a better wrestler in the way that Steamboat was supposed to be than Nash was as he's supposed to be. Look at the WCW collapsing around him (despite some successes), WWF falling around him, and his return to the WWE not really moving much at all -- in fact, it's killed more things than it's helped.

Nash is a great man, though. Just not a great wrestler.
