Best MLB farming system
Ok so I was watching the Braves smack the Expositions when they started talking about this. They read off a list of names of people who came from the Montreal system...can't remember them all...but I'll try and recall a few
Randy Johnson, Vlad, God i can't remember them all So it got me wondering as to who everything thinks markets the best players (Biased opinion) I honestly think it's the Braves. I mean I have watched them almost religiously every year they have gone to the playoffs. People who came from Atlanta and have risen to higher fame: Chipper Jones Andruw Jones Rafael Furcal Ryan Klesko Marcus Giles (he's just starting up too) Javy Lopez Jermaine Dye John Smoltz Tom Glavine I'm sure I could think of more. I mean right now a ton of Atlanta starters have been just regular guys. This guy Nick Green is hitting over .350 and he's never played in the majors before. Who do you think farms the best overall players... |

Right now the Twins probably have one of the deepest farm systems, and considering all of the starting nine except Stewart were farmboys, thats pretty good.
The A's definately had a great farm system, too bad they didn't have any money |

Oh I know now many famous guys came out, probably the most famous one lately was Todd Walker. But I am just saying that the Twins are probably the best team out there that relies heavily on their farm system. The Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Mariners, Orioles, White Sox, they all rely a lot on trading. |

Actually a lot of small market teams have done a great job with their farm systems but just end up getting raped by big market clubs. KC produced Johnny Damon, Jermaine Dye and Carlos Beltran. Beltran is gone next season. The Marlins will be very lucky to keep Willis and Beckett for more than five seasons. And when you talk about the Expos you also have to mention Larry Walker, Moises Alou, Delino DeShields, Marquis Grissom, Michael Barrett, Javy Vazquez.... My personal favorite when talking about farm systems is the Dodgers though. Because I hate them, I love thinking about the many guys who they brought up, gave up on, and then became stars somewhere else. John Wetteland, Paul Konerko, Padro Martinez...good times. |

I don't think they teach base running techniques down at Oakland's farm system though. LOL at Byrnes.

Yeah, the Braves had an excellent farm system during the past decade, and really still do. I expect to see SS Wilson Betemit and SPs Macay McBride and Bubba Nelson in the majors pretty soon...
If you look at the dominant teams of the past few years, they almost all have a core of homegrown talent... The Yankees with Jeter, Rivera, Pettite, Williams, Posada; the aforementioned A's and Twins teams; the Angels with Erstad, Anderson, Salmon, Percival, Glaus; the Indians with Thome, Ramirez, Alomar; and so on... One of the best ways to win in MLB is to have a core of talent mature together, both in the minors and majors... That's why the Marlins and Rangers are now experiencing success with young teams... There was a Blalock-Teixeira-Young infield that hit well in AAA, and they'll repeat that success with the Rangers... |

I think currently the Braves the Twins and the Jays have the nicest looking farm system.

How is Prince Fielder looking? I remember reading an article on him in Sports Illustrated when he was a senior in high school, is he really gonna be all that?

He lives up to his last name as a vaccuum at first and also has 30-40 HR potential. He'll be a big part of the Brewers of the future (although Lyle Overbay hasn't proven to be the disposable stand-in Milwaukee thought he'd be)...

Prince Fielder's doing well at AA and, I would imagine, is the starter for 2006.
Yes, he'll be all that. Or should be. You can never REALLY tell. |

Look for these names.....
Gavin Floyd Cole Hamels Chase Utley (already making a splash) Ryan Madson (already making a splash) Anderson Machado Jake Blalock (Hank's little brother who plays 3B) Elizardo Ramirez Ryan Howard Already on the big club: CF Marlon Byrd LF Pat "The Bat" Burrell (1st Overall Pick in 1998) SS Jimmy Rollins C Mike Lieberthal SP Randy Wolf SP Brett (The Hitman) Myers OF Jason Michaels (Pat Burrell's college teammate, plays all 3 OF positions, solid hitter) Guys from us, now on other teams due to trades: MIN SP: Carlos Silva (Eric Milton deal) MIN IF: Nick Punto (Eric Milton deal) HOU SP/RP Brandon Duckworth (Billy Wagner deal) HOU SP (Minors) Taylor Buchholz (will be an amazing talent) (Wagner deal) HOU SP (Minors) Ezequiel Astacio (same as Buchholz) ATL C: Johnny Estrada (Kevin Millwood deal) Players that we drafted (that I remember we drafted) The Best Thirdbaseman of all time MICHAEL JACK SCHMIDT The 2nd Best Thirdbaseman of all time Scott Rolen and many more plus many others The Phillies have been able to become a contender this season by building from within. Something they didnt do for many years. Now their efforts are paying off while adding free-agents like Thome, Bell, Worrell and making the neccessary deals for Wagner, Millwood and Milton. We might not have the best farm system of all time but its pretty damn good right now being that we are in 1ST PLACE. Remember, watch out for those names at the top, they will be stars. This was an analysis of the current farm system, not so much of the past. GO PHILLIES! |

I didn't know the Phillies gave up Taylor Bucholz for Wagner... Better hope they get to the playoffs with Wagner now or in the next few seasons... Losing Bucholz could well come back to bite them in the ass in a few years...

The Mets have a fairly decent farming system:
Jose Reyes Esix Snead (currently on the Mets AAA team, one of the fastest runners I've ever seen) Marco Scutaro (currently a starter for the Oakland A's) Jason Phillips Orber Moreno Jae Weong Seo Jeff Duncan Pedro Feliciano Royce Ring (on he Mets AA team, but he's the closer of the future for them) ------------------- Of course, I'm probably the only one that watches the Mets on here, but I can confirm that all the guys that I've listed are good, solid, young players that will likely make an impact at some point. |
