Ain't no one gonna get into the Hall of Fame at this rate lol. Anyway, Macho Man gets the nod from me here. Probably one of the best in the ring from his era, and he had the charisma and mic skills to match. Bret was great in the ring, and his charisma is debatable, but his mic skills were sub par in my opinion especially when compared to Macho.

Savage is one of the best characters of all time, but outside of the Steamboat, Flair, and Warrior matches did he really have any classics? The Hogan bouts were mainly snoozers

Quote:
His work in the mega powers splitting and his reactions and one promo in particular in his Jake feud were soooo good. He knew how to work the crowd and how to elicit real emotion. In saying that, Hart was arguably a better technician in the ring because he was able to call it in the ring and tell a story in many situations, whereas the macho man needed to plan every single step previously, as it's been well documented. Two of the main eventers who took the business super serious, but because of that could tell stories and elicit real emotions like few others could. Fantastic matchup and I will have to think about this one... |

I know the bore thing has become a common theme with Hart but I just don't understand it. Even today, watching his Austin match, for example, from Mania. Few could have pulled off that double turn the way they did.
There were things he did that were so subtle and nuanced, tiny reactions to losses and what was going on around him and his expressions. I just thought he was amazing and he was always able to tell such a great story. What he had is what is missing from WWE today...He was able to tell a different story every time. I think his salty demeanour post wrestling has soured people on him as a performer and I get that, but at his peak he was on another level to most performers on the roster |

Macho Man. Another one of my favorites. You keep putting my all time favorites up against Bret. As a kid Savage stood out to me from every other wrestler with his look and personality.

Macho Man.
Bret was better in terms of in-ring skills but Macho was the better overall package. Macho also saved the world from the rapture that one time ![]() |

MACHO ALL THE WAY.
More entertaining more memorable Better Talker Certainly it can be said Bret never reached the heights of a Randy Savage (even in Canada where He's sacred and he'll probably be canonized as a saint when he dies) I don't think he's seen as an equal to the likes of Savage. I liked both, but Hart was one of my childhood heroes.
I remember in 1999 when Savage was a heel in WCW and I was a 12 year-old mark, I hated him so much. WCW really booked him as this crazy, unstoppable and dangerous bad guy. I miss being a mark. ![]() |

So what I'm gathering here is that last round Bret screwed HBK and finally avenged his loss in Montreal with a screw job of his own; however Bret forgot that Bret screwed Bret and now the IWC is reminding him with a Savage beating.

I first started watching wrestling with WCW circa 1998. I got to see a year and a half of Bret's career when he was already in his 40s and he spent a lot of time on the shelf even before the Goldberg kick. 1999 Macho Man was even worse, roided up beyond measure and only wrestled a few matches. That was my first exposure to both men, hardly flattering on either front.
The big difference is when I watch older wrestling from periods of time in which I didn't have an emotional investment, I find myself enthralled with Savage's work whereas Bret matches, while technically good, just don't seem to hook me in. |

I think no doubt did Bret Hart have the better body of "in ring work"...... I remember thinking Macho Man was pretty "mehhhhhhh" in WCW.
I loved Macho Man as a kid, though, and his personality and flair remain one of my all time favourites. So do I go with "really loving Macho Man a lot" for part of his career, or "really liking Bret Hart" for most of his career? My gut tells me to vote for Macho Man, but I think that it is mostly "sentiment"..... so I'm going to vote for Bret...... seems like no chance of him winning, anyways...... |

I kinda think Randy paved the way for wrestlers like Bret in a roundabout sort of way. Think of the spot he had on the roster most of his WWF run compared to the size of the other wrestlers... No Randy = No Bret, No HBk etc...
