Discuss the Career #3- Mick Foley

This week, we will take a jump from the mid cards to the....upper Midcard? Main event? One of the top 10 of all time? You guys have the voice.

A guy that will forever be synonymous with the Hell in a Cell match and the pain, punishment and torture that he put himself through in that match, Mick Foley's career for me will always be in the upper mid card. The guy could work, was good on the mic, and seemed to be able to produce good (but not great) matches.

What say you?

Mick was great, but he really should have called it quits after his Mania match with Edge. Now I did enjoy his brief run as a heel team with Edge for the few months after Mania, leading to One Night Stand and fighting Terry Funk once more, but for such a beloved character the Mania 22 match should have been the swan song.

The Impact stuff, pretty eerily how current day Edge feels in AEW, just out of place and lackluster.

Foley is one of the best carpenters ever. Did so much for Rock, Taker and HHH. One of those “extra ingredients” that made the Attitude era as effective as it was. Wouldn’t have done it himself, but was good enough to stick with it across the line.

I quite like some WCW work of his too.

It became a little sad and now he’s kind of a parody of himself. I don’t think people appreciate what he did beyond the obvious nod he gets for being there and having some great moments to his name.

I saw xrod bring up the match with Edge. It’s arguable that Orton should have been his last in 2004.

That Orton match was far better, but that whole storyline about Mick never having a real Wrestlemania moment, and then them delivering, made it work.

Hmm, maybe. I just remember being so dissatisfied with WWE around this point in time. WrestleMania 22 really pissed me off.

Personally in my top 5 all time. Not the best athlete, or the best technically, but the man knows how to tell a story in the ring. Also one of the nicest people I've ever met.

I agree with how nice he was. When I met him, he sat down and talked for a half hour or so. Was nice to see his perspective on the business today. He was also very talkative about the attitude Era (although I didnt talk to him about the HIAC match, I am sure he doesnt want to talk about that much anymore).

I really hope that he doesn't end up "selling" out like Flair did with AEW and go over there to work with that promotion. Flair can't help himself but it would definitely continue to ruin this era that Foley has for me.

I loved all of his stuff post HIAC match with Taker. You could tell that it was starting to take it's toll on Foley, but that was some of his best work, especially his feud with the Rock.

He reached his maximum potential. A lot of the time we say "XXXX would have been better in XXX era". Mick Foley was in the right era right time to capitalize on what made him special.

I mean, he does have to take some of the blame for putting ideas in the heads of a lot of people as to what wrestling is supposed to be or how to get noticed in the business. People only saw the hardcore stuff and virtually none of the other skills at his disposal that allowed him to be a memorable performer for so many years, instead of being relegated to the forgotten ash heaps of underground garbage wrestling. He had a great mind for the business. He had a tremendous personality and one of the legit nicest guys in the entire locker room. It's easy to brush him off as a "glorified stuntman" if you only focus on one aspect of his entire career. I wish he had taken things a tad easier on himself so he'd have had a different path post-2000, but he seems to be doing OK for himself regardless. He's one of those guys where I was always invested in what he was doing. His status as it stands now is extremely deserved.

Love Foley. One of my favorites ever. I was always interested in what he was doing. It wasn't always pretty, but it was entertaining as hell.

(Also I met him a few years back and he could not have been nicer.)

With them being friends and teammates on the high school wrestling team, I always like to think of a weird alternate timeline where Mick Foley goes straight into comedy and Kevin James tries professional wrestling.

Mick Foley was tremendous, but only if you looked beyond the ring.

I read his book "Have A Nice Day" which was incredibly eye-opening to me. It droned on in many parts, but this man knew damn near everyone in the business, then and now.

His stories are incredible, and he has a really strong way to tell them. I'd like to post more but I'm working

Mick Foley is an absolute 10/10 no doubt one of the greatest wrestlers in history. Guy gets a lot of wrong reputation of folks thinking he was only about the crazy spots he did but he was so much more then that in the ring. Foley could have been just as big if he never did his hardcore spots in my opinion they should not define his career even though they were amazing.
I feel like Foley had so much talent in a sports entertainment type of way that he couldve had an entertaining match with a literal dumpster and people would still pop and talk about it. Literally could make anybody look good.
Foley is not just Good. Foley is Krow-Approved
