I know it will never happen, but...?
Of the cities which currently hold teams in each of the "Big Four" U.S. sports, which city is most likely (though none will ever do it) to sweep the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, the NBA Title, and the World Series in one calendar year?
Your choices are: ATLANTA (Braves, Falcons, Hawks, Thrashers) CHICAGO (Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs/White Sox) DENVER (Avalanche, Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies) DETROIT (Lions, Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers) MIAMI (Dolphins, Heat, Marlins, Panthers) MINNEAPOLIS (Timberwolves, Twins, Vikings, Wild) NEW YORK (Giants/Jets, Islanders/Rangers, Knicks, Mets/Yankees) PHILADELPHIA (Eagles, Flyers, Phillies, Sixers) PHOENIX (Cardinals, Coyotes, Diamondbacks, Suns) Discuss. (I meant to put a poll, but I'm having a brain-fartastic day) -EDIT- That's what I get for posting under the influence of Alka-Seltzer. Last edited by loopydate; 06-18-2004 at 06:53 PM. |

Hmm, interesting question.
I'm going to go with Denver. Maybe Philly if the Sixers could get going. Also, why did you put that as your custon title after the series and after you were proved to have edited your posts about the series? Pretty lame.

NEW YORK
Yeah, I'm biased. And loopy, it's going to be the Brooklyn Nets soon, so that counts as NY too. |

just thought i'd be a smart ass and point out that the pred's play for nashville anyways i'm tempted to pick new york just because they have more teams to choose from in addition to being a larger market that can attract/pay good players (in theory anyways) |

Since no one cares about hockey, has any city ever swept the big 3?

New York is the logical choice, they have the most teams, and also they consistantly spend more money than everyone else, so that give them an edge as well (at least if they use it right).

I'll sound like a prick again, but honestly Minnesota isn't too far off. Hell, the Wolves were in the Western Finals this year, the Wild were last year (with a team of nobodies), the Twins have a good chance of winning the division, and the Vikings showed huge signs of explosiveness last year that will only be better this year. Of course its not going to happen, but right now I would say they have four teams capable of making push's in the playoffs.

The only cities that have a chance above is Philadelphia or Atlanta who. Between the two I pick Atlanta because you can never underestimate a Ted Turner team.

Looking at it again, if it was right now Phily would be the logical choice..
(Loopydate, under Miami you have "Predators," I think you mean "Panthers") |

Yeah Philly could do it, but they don't deserve to because their fans are wank.
Detroit will never EVER do it. They're incapable of having championship teams in baseball or football. ![]() Atlanta... Hawks are on their way aren't they? Hahahahaha. Jason Terry for MVP. oh man that's a hoot... YEAH HAWKS!As for "Phoenix," well...

NEW YORK, only because the odds are more stacked in their favor. When you have 2 teams in most leagues there is a much better chance of winning it all. I don't think it's unreasonable that it may happen either, but it'll cause alot of resentment if it ever did.

At this moment, shocking as it is, I might have to go with Miami.
The Marlins won the World Series last year. The Heat have improved a lot in the last couple of years to the point of making the playoffs this year. Plus, they have Dwayne Wade. The Dolphins are perennially at or near the top of the AFC, and it wouldn't take much to reverse their apparent playoff curse. I don't know much about hockey, so the Panthers are the wild card for me. They've made the playoffs recently (not this year, I know), haven't they? |

All of the cities I mentioned either play in that city or are announced as being from that city. The Patriots are neither, so Boston is out. |

the Phillies, Flyers, Sixers and Eagles all went to the Championship game(s) in their respective leagues. Only the Phillies won, the World Series. We had the Opportunity of a lifetime. But the 2004-2005 Super Bowl Champs will be the Eagles. |

The Pistons play in Auburn Hills or whatever, the Twins, Vikings, and Wolves play in Minneapolis while the Wild plays in St. Paul, and the Vikings may be playing in Anoka very soon, the Islanders play in Hempstead, the Jets/Giants in New Jersey, the Yankees in the Bronx. Its all the same thing. |

According to Mapquest, is 32 miles from downtown Boston to downtown Foxboro, I think its fair to call that a Boston area team.

I live in Georgia, so obviously I would hope Atlanta
But they are probably the LAST team I'd pick on that roster. VERY IMPROTANT FACT Out of ALL SPROTS TEAMS EVER IN ATLANTA, those teams have had a combined total of 1 championship (the Braves in 1995). The Falcons have never had back to back winning seasons. And the current stature of the Hawks and the Trashers, I don't even have to discuss. |

Yeah we are huge chokers (Braves)
I have come to realize that if their is a way to screw something up, Bobby Cox and co. will find that way. |

Adding onto Boomers comment, Minnesota only has two total, and that is the Twins in 89 and 91.
