NHL draft - Saturday June 26
Whether or not there is an NHL next season, is still yet to be determined (I think there will be) Either way, the draft will be held this Saturday.
This is the 1st round draft order. 1 Washington - 2 Pittsburgh - 3 Chicago - 4 Columbus - 5 Phoenix - 6 NY Rangers - 7 Florida - 8 Carolina - 9 Anaheim - 10 Atlanta - 11 Los Angeles - 12 Minnesota - 13 Buffalo - 14 Edmonton - 15 Nashville - 16 NY Islanders - 17 St. Louis - 18 Montreal - 19 Calgary - 20 Dallas - 21 Colorado - 22 New Jersey - 23 Ottawa - 24 NY Rangers (1) - 25 Edmonton (2) - 26 Vancouver - 27 Washington (3) - 28 San Jose - 29 Washington (4) - 30 Tampa Bay (1) from Toronto, (2) from Philadelphia, (3) from Boston, (4) from Detroit. Here are the top 10 (projected) picks. 1. Alexander Ovechkin- ██████████ Left Wing 2. Evgeni Malkin- ██████████ Centre 3. Cam Barker- ██████████ Defence 4. Al Montoya- ██████████ Goaltender 5. Lauri Tukonen- ██████████ Centre 6. Marek Schwarz- ██████████ Goaltender 7. Andrew Ladd- ██████████ Left Wing 8. A.J. Thelen- ██████████ Defence 9. Ladislav Smid- ██████████ Defence 10. Rostislav Olesz- ██████████ Centre I know it may sound foolish, but I'd choose Cam Barker first overall. I doubt Washington will though. |

The hockey draft is too complicated, I don't get how it works, and aren't there like 5 drafts?

Next june. But this is the year of ovechkin. We'll see if the caps do actually land him, I know other teams have inquired about moving up to get him, but I'm thinking the caps are gonna pick him up. |

This is the 1st round draft order.
1 Washington - Alexander Ovechkin, Unless they trade down, which I doubt they will 2 Pittsburgh - Cam Barker, They need to start building their Defense so Fluery wont have to face 75 shots a game 3 Chicago - Evgeni Malkin, They want Ovechkin, They're not gonna give enough to get him. Malkin is the next best forward so they should be taking him. 4 Columbus - Lauri Tukonen, Get rick nash a line mate and that will be one HOT line 5 Phoenix - (trade with edmonton for edmonton's first round and 2nd round picks) - Al Montoya, Conklin and Markennan aren't the furture 6 NY Rangers - A.J. Thelen, 2nd best Defense in the draft need a need for a rebuilding team. 7 Florida - Andrew Ladd, best NA Forward in the draft 8 Carolina - Marek Schwarz, Need a future goalie, he's their man 9 Anaheim - Wojtek Wolski, Top line player 70 points in 65 games, if he doesn't get arrested again by saturday I would say he's a good pick 10 Atlanta - Boris Valabik, Big Defenseman that they need I'll do the rest later |

From everything I've heard/read/etc., after the first two picks, the talent is a huge dropoff.

I would say there's probably about 10 stand out players in this draft.. Maybe it's cause I play hockey and most of the people who rank the players don't but I don't know I think there's alot more talent in this draft then people think, there's 3 goalies only that could easily be top 10 picks, but they wont be.

It's not a superstar draft, but it's got depth. Lots of D and G's ranked high.

Whether you play hockey or not has nothing to do with evaluating talent.
I dont know how many junior games people watch here, but it would be tough to evaluate a guy unless you've seen them play a bunch of times (more than twice). Ovechkin is the guy everyone says is the standout player, so he'll obviously go #1, but hockey is one of those sports that its difficult to tell how a guy will do until they actually get into the NHL (unlike the NBA for example). The rest of the guys, Ive only seen some of them a handful of times, and aside from Montoya nobody really stands out. But even Montoya is no guarantee because goalies tend to be a crap shoot. |

I followed the WHL this year closely and there was quite a few good players, namely cam barker, I saw him play three games during the memorial cup and he could easily be a number 1 pick, I would say he's better then Boumeister

Aren't there like two more drafts? How many picks does each team have? What makes a guy eligable to be drafted?

I think BCWWF may be thinking of the players that each team must decide to protect or not. Like each team can only protect 18 players, not including new draftees and some other restrictions.
Of those players, they can be picked up by other teams. Draft like, because there is an order. |
