AJ Styles really is great, now.

I was listening to Raven’s shoot with RF Video, and he pointed out some things that I whole-heartedly agree with (especially now that I think about it). With the “X” style of wrestling, fans are getting worked up over wrestlers who really… really aren’t all that they’re cracked up to be. AJ Styles for example, one year ago. Yes he was amazing to watch, his acrobatics were amazing and he was just innovative, however he had no psychology. He didn’t sell moves. Yeah, he would sell them when they happened, but 20 or 30 seconds later he was running full blast again even though someone just spent a good minute working on his leg. That takes away in large part to the drama that wrestling is supposed to create.

Fast forward to AJ now, now he actually works (Raven’s words there). He sells, he uses his high spots, but only when they make sense. He doesn’t just do them because he can. AJ has now just started to fulfill parts of his potential.

Amazing Red is another example, he’ll be great when he puts everything together, but now he just does moves because he can do the moves. No method behind them.

Raven gave a great example; I’ll use Red to put his point across. Red throws his opponent out of the ring, and goes for one of his great plancha or dives. Now, spectacular move? Yes. Good psychology? No. What if Red had been out wrestling his opponent, and his opponent escapes the ring, two or three times, and the last time Red is so frustrated, he just says fuck it and goes for the dive. Now not only do you have the spectacular moves, but you have psychology to it. Which probably reduces the number of amazing moves he does, which makes the ones he does do that much more spectacular.

Anyway, post your thoughts comments or opinions. I may get flamed, but it made sense to me.

Yeah, but so many people over look it. I mean I'll be the first to admit, when Styles first started I was impressed, but after the first or second time I became bored. I just thought I'd post this to point out some specifics. As simple as they may be.

I mean, if you think about it when you looked at the various sites, Styles is the best, Red is truly amazing, give such in such the title. So I mean, a lot of people over look the small details.

Yeah, Raven did make sense when he said that AJ is better now than a few years ago. I respect Raven even more after watchin that whole interview.

Dragon and Lynn are great in my opinion for that.

Speaking of Dragon Funky, I've got some matches from Japan with him on my computer. One being Jericho vs Dragon, Jushin Liger vs Dragon.

Both are great if you want them, PM me.

I have them both myself, but thanks for the offer.

Jericho is the man in that match. "That's all she wrote, baby!"

A lot of these guys pull of the "high risk" and all that upfront because
that's what they mainly know how to do at the time, and it gets them
noticed.

Most of them figure that once they "get noticed" they will have their
chance to work on other things (psychology, selling, etc.) while they
are collecting a paycheck [like previously mentioned Styles,etc..]. It
is a good idea.

However, then there are some who continue to run their same spots
over and over again and never want to improve, because they feel if
it works now - it'll continue to. That's not such a good idea.

Also, while we're on the topic of overrated cruisers / lightweight guys,
'Sonjay Dutt' should be crowned their official spokesperson. He jumps
around a decent game, but has nothing (as of yet). Maybe he will fall
into the Styles category and improve,or the other category and won't.

It's a very, very good point, and I totally agree. Sometimes, it's little things that make a big difference.

Yes I agree... I mean these wrestlers don't have to completely lose their big spots I mean you can have big spots you just can't be a spot wrestler. It's just that the spots must make sense. I think that Red has come along way compared to his CZW days when he was just getting noticed. Back then his matches were just flipping, so he is improving... but he still needs work.

Yeah I think that's the lines that Raven was going along. If it's the same interview I saw he was saying that they should reduce the number of spots they do in match otherwise they don't mean as much. He also touched upon something that Bobby Heenan also mentioned in his interview, if you're going to use a weapon, make it mean something.
