NHL offseason
just make it easier then reading tons of threads..

Minnesota just signed Rolston from Boston

everyone and there dog's seem to be jumping out of Boston for some reason now... Probably cause they're cheap, but the deals these guys have been signing havne't been drastic or anything.

Murray is appearently about to sign with Toronto or Detroit by the end of the weekend.

Kariya and Nedved are appearently close to being signed by the Canucks (I'll believe that one when I see it)

The Boston Bruins' dramatic offseason continued Thursday as IMG Hockey announced that they have finalized a new contract for client Joe Thornton to play with HC Davos of the Swiss Elite League for the upcoming season.



The Bruins' captain and three-time NHL All-Star is a Group II Restricted Free Agent without a contract. "I am very excited about the opportunity to play with Davos," said Thornton in a statement released by IMG. "It is a fantastic hockey environment and has a long tradition of excellence in European hockey circles."



HC Davos has long been recognized as one of the most top hockey franchises in Europe and competes in the Swiss Elite League. The club is also well known for its annual Spengler Cup tournament held every December.



"We are very happy for Joe. Davos is one of the premier hockey clubs to play for in Europe," said his agent, J.P. Barry. "As we are all aware there may not be NHL Hockey next season and this agreement will allow Joe to play hockey at the highest level in a unique environment that he may otherwise not have ever experienced."

The news comes as another chapter in a topsy-turvy offseason saga for the Bruins, who have already lost core players to the summer's free agent market. Forward Mike Knuble signed with the Philadelphia Flyers as an unrestricted free agent Saturday, and defenceman Sean O'Donnell signed a three-year, $6-million deal with the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday.



Reports also indicate that forward Glen Murray appears close to signing with a new team, but the biggest story to hit the rumour mill came Sunday when the New York Post reported that Thornton wanted out of town.



General manager Mike O'Connell told the Boston Globe Wednesday that he spoke to Thornton and got no indication that he was disgruntled.



"I read the article (yesterday) morning," O'Connell told the paper. "Someone told me about it. I called Larry (Brooks) and I told him, 'I don't know where you got this,' and he said he got it from very reliable sources. But I spoke with Joe in Toronto at the awards dinner. Never did he mention anything to that effect to me. I met with his agent at the NHL draft and never was it brought up that he wanted to be traded. It's all news to me."



The Post story said Thornton, who was held pointless while playing with a rib injury in the playoffs against the Montreal Canadiens, was unhappy he wasn't supported more by management.



Thornton led Boston last season with 23 goals and 50 assists in 77 games. He was also named to Canada's team for the 2004 World Cup of hockey.

Well losing Hasek was a MAJOR setback.


In all seriousness, I think they should be all right. I don't think they're going to be one of the better teams this year though. A lot of players leaving, but they do have a bunch of their vets with them still. The rumors can't be helping though. Shanahan might want out, Hull might go to Dallas, Schneider might leave too, so who knows. On the flipside, there's been tons of rumors of them picking up some big name FAs, so we'll have to wait and see.

i'd love to see kariya play here, don't think we'll see both him and nedved though unless they decide that they're maybe gonna move morrison which is being rumoured. and yeah boston might not have a team left at this rate. interesting to see how/if the impending work stopage affects FA signings with the chance of a salary cap being put in the next deal.

Thorton will ruin his NHL career if he's not careful. I heard the Canucks were going after Nedved, Kariya too? Well, they better do something, they did nothing for the playoff run and doing nothing now too would be the wrong message to send to the team and the fans. Afterall, other teams are signing players regardless of the looming lock out.

Yeah I've read conflicting reports. Some people are saying he wants to stay, but is asking more than they're offering, and others are saying he might just try his options elsewhere. I'd be more surprised to see him gone than back in Detroit though.

PITTSBURGH (CP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed free agent right-winger Mark Recchi to a three-year, $9-million US contract.



The 36-year-old from Kamloops, B.C., returns to the city where he won a Stanley Cup in 1991.



Recchi was drafted by the Penguins in the fourth round (67th overall) of the 1988 draft and he has kept a home there for several years while playing in other cities.



The third year of the deal is an option year at the mutual agreement of the club and player. His salary last season was $5 million US.



Recchi led the Philadelphia Flyers in goals, assists and points (26-49_75) while playing all 82 games during the 2003-04 season.



He has scored 20 or more goals in each of his last five seasons in Philadelphia. The five-foot-10, 185-pound winger has scored 25 or more goals in a season 11 time during his career.



Recchi ranks in the top 10 in Flyers' history in goals, assists and points.



The Flyers signed right-wingers Mike Knuble and Turner Stevenson to three-year contracts earlier this week.



Recchi, a seven-time all-star, has 456 goals, 745 assists and 780 penalty minutes in 1,173 career NHL games with the Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens.



Recchi began his career with the Penguins, playing in 225 games from 1988 to 1992. He led the Penguins in scoring during the 1990-91 regular season with 40 goals and 73 assists in 78 games

Gonchar and Kubina are first up today, Kubina wants $3.7-million/2 years, Tampa want to give him $3-million/3 years, he should just accept what they offer.

canucks signed morrison and cloutier to one year deals, good move and the were able to avoid arbitration. we pretty much have all our core players comming back, we still need to sign alex auld though and i think the twins.

So Edmonton loses the "experience" player again, only to shgur their shoulders and plan for the possible upcoming season. Fuck, why don't they just hand the money back to the people who bought season tickets for not going out there and getting anyone.

The Coyotes, in the offseason, have now acquired Hull, Devereaux, Nedved and Ricci. Calgary has a quality player to cover for losing Conroy. Vancouver keeps it's man Morrison, and what do we do? Inserting our head up our asses in case maybe we'll be better this year...yea, right.

I'm dissapointed I'm not home because there are a few games in the Xcel Energy Center and I'm sure that would be pretty cool to see live.
