Wrestlemania Top 10 Matches

I have just purchased the Wrestlemania 2 DVD and an extra is the top 10 matches of WM from WM 1 to WM19. The list of matches is:

10) Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle at WM 17
9) Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior at WM 6
8) Steve Austin vs HBK at WM 14
7) Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff at WM 1
6) Bret Hart vs Steve Austin at WM 13
5) The Rock vs Hulk Hogan at WM 18
4) Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage at WM 3
3) Razor Ramon vs HBK at WM 10
2) Hardy Boyz vs Dudley Boyz vs Edge & Christian at WM 16
1) HBK vs Bret Hart at WM 12

Post opinions on this list. I were to add a match of WM 20 I would add the triple threat match and I would take the WM 1 match out . Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle would be higher probably up to seven.

The Best in the World!

OK List. The only one I would take out is:

Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff at WM 1

And I would replace it with

Savage vs Flair WM 8

....

If not the best, then top 5. But bingo. You're right on.

IMO Owen had a mix of bret and HBK in his style, thus perhaps entitling him to be the better wrestler of any of those guys. At least he's on par with them, although he didn't tell stories in the ring as well as say bret did.

I was at Wrestlemania 10 at MSG. I have to agree Bret vs Owen should be the #1 Wrestlemania match. Plus the Razor Ramon vs HBK Ladder match was top 10 in Wrestlemania history. Man, know that i think of it, Wrestlemania 10 was one of the best Wrestlemania's of all time.

My list would be:

10 - Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit @ Mania 17
9 - Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart @ Mania 12
8 - Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho @ Mania 19
7 - Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage @ Mania 3
6 - Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon @ Mania 10
5 - Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H @ Mania 20
4 - Edge & Christian vs. Dudleys vs. Hardys @ Mania 17
3 - Steve Austin vs. The Rock @ Mania 17
2 - Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin @ Mania 13
1 - Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart @ Mania 10

Atmospheres are something on the night but there is no way I can include Hogan's matches at Mania's 1, 6 and 18. Especially the last one which in mu opinion is the most overrated match I have ever seen. Warrior vs. Savage and Angle vs. Lesnar nearly made the list but that's about it.

As an opener, I'm pretty sure it was the opener, I actually enjoyed it. The Rockers were so good at tag team wrestling, that basically any match they had was watchable, at least for me. Same with Mania 6 against the Twin Towers.

This is all my opinion, feel free to flame.

-edit- I've probably seen WM10 10 million times, but I havent lately..and I'll be damned if I can remember Bret/Owen. So that's my explanation for that exclusion.

Can't believe I forgot Hart vs. Piper. I'm happy with my list still.

LC - I personally thought that match was awesome. I can't seperate that with the Savage vs. Warrior match that night for best match. 4 star each easy.

Well if you look at Mania 7, it had some pretty decent matches and then Warrior/Savage was great.

Like I said, I enjoyed the Rockers match, I enjoyed the Blindfold match because I thought the feud between Jake and Martel was excellent. Even though the Hart's lost the Titles, I enjoyed that match with the Nasty's. Great heat the the Nasty's and Jimmy Hart at the end. Then you had the Perfect/Bossman IC Title match which I enjoyed. Crowd was really into it and the Andre moment was pretty cool. Then you had Hulk/SGT which, believe it or not, kind of liked the angle, so i enjoyed that one. Dibiase/Virgil was pretty good too.

Then you had two squashes with LOD and Taker winning.

But, there was one match that was weird. Two Japanese guys who I had never even heard of before beat the Demolition. I was like WTF? when watching that one.

I saw the special on TV and now have it with the 3-disc WMXX box set...but my main question was why wasn't Hulk Hogan VS. André The Giant at WM III mentioned (the one where Hogan bodyslammed André)?

I noticed that a lot of people put a shitload of old school matches down in an attempt to look either more cultured or more knowledgeable about wrestling. In my opnion, wrestling has only gotten better between Wrestlemanias 14 and 19( mabye not popularity wise now, but the wrestling is alot better). I also have seen a bunch of the old Wrestlemanias lately, and I noticed one thing almost all of em had in common....they werent really that good. So I tried to stick with more recent matches, but Steamboat and Savage couldnt be denied.

EDIT: I also tried to keep any Harts as far away from my post as possible.

The old school matches weren't that good? WHAT? And you tried to keep minimal Hart matches? Do you like good wrestling matches or what? I don't even know where to start my complaints here.

And HHH vs Taker at #1? I've never heard anybody even mention that on a top 10 WM list ever.

Triple H vs UT can easily fall to 6th.

Or myabe... Just maybe it's because we just happen to enjoy older matches.

It's not a matter of enjoying "older" matches. It's a matter of enjoying great matches no matter what year they took place in.

We could just assume this guy is too young to have even seen any of those older mania's, and he hasn't really bothered to check them all out. Which would show a bias towards his timeline.

Some people around here have been fans long enough to have enjoyed every mania..so ya know, they'll choose their faves. It's not a matter of trying to look more knowledgable at all.

I know a lot of you will think that I'm full of crap about these 2 that I will mention, but anyway here goes.

1.)The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan @ WMX8--the crowd was evenly split in their enthusiasm for BOTH superstars and I think that gave them both the energy they needed to wrestle one of the greater WM matches in the past 3-5 years...and even after, I think, 2 or 3 rock bottoms by The Rock, Hogan still wouldn't give up. For a guy his age to have the ring presence/endurance in this kind of match is simply amazing. And win Rock finally did win the match, Hogan still had the good charisma and sportsmanship to shake hands with Rock. But the best part about all of this, IMO was the following night on RAW (3/18/02 ep., IIRC), where Rock had Hogan come out and the crowd was all into it and everything, until nWo showed up and then Rock told Hogan why didn't he just rip up the nWo shirt he had on and let them know what he really thought of them? So he does and basically, I think this strengthened the real-life friendship of Hogan/Rock.

2.) The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin @ WMXIX--I may be thinking more of another great moment here but if I am I'm at least willing to admit it. This was one of the very few matches I have ever gotten to see where Rock was playing a heel. And I just absolutely loved when Rock put on Austin's vest and gave him the rock bottom and a stunner in it (wearing it) and overall it was a pretty decent match that could've been better and I know a lot of people will disagree with me on the outcome but I loved how Rock won the match with The People's Elbow. GR8 stuff!

It makes sense then that the only Hart match was that classic between Bret and Steve Austin at WM 12.

I agree with most of Rob's list with a couple exceptions. Mainly the triple threat from WM 20 which I thought was pretty overrated.
