The Rock vs Randy "The Randal" Orton at Summerslam?

Think it'll happen?

I dunno, but there are very few things that could make me order a PPV anymore. That would be one of them. I think Loose Cannon would need a few towels.

I'd like to see Orton go over The Rock at Survivor Series.

Hypothetically, Orton and The Rock begin to feud immediately after Summerslam. Orton cuts a "killer" promo, and The Rock interrupts, having had it with Orton's boasting for the past year, and they have numerous mic segments wherethey each trade insults to better their own charisma.

On an episode of RAW The Rock picks up a victory against Orton in a tag team match. Thus giving The Rock momentum going into their Survivor Series match.

To make matters worse, Bob Orton Jr. interrupts another one of Orton's "killer" promos and tells him how disgusted he is with Randy's attitude. Bob tries to humilate him, but he is met with an RKO by his own son. Randy picks up a ton of heat, and Bob decides that he's going to be in The Rock's corner at their match at Survivor Series; giving The Rock even more momentum.

At Survivor Series, Orton and The Rock wrestle a 20-30 minute match, both superstars gaining an advantage on each other throughout the match. Randy scores a final RKO on The Rock to put him down for the count. Bob tries to get revenge but he is quickly taken out of action (perhaps by fellow legend Ric Flair ).

Orton adds a huge name to the list of legends killed, and gets a lot of heat back.

Not at this years SummerSlam.

Randy Orton is not ready for the main event yet. Hell, WM 21 would be way to early for him to get a title shot.

Now, next year's SummerSlam would be perfect. Unfortunatly, they are going to blow their load early and give the little bastard the belt sooner rather than later.

Randy Orton is starting to be watchable and he is getting better each week, but nowhere near ready to get the "BIG WIN" to put him in the main events.

I disagree, I think Orton is the most over babyface on the RAW roster right now (and yes I realize he's supposed to be a heel, no need to point that out). And I would argue Orton could main event right now and to a degree he already has, by Mania he'll be good to go forsure.

If they could get Rock to wrestle, of course they should do it. It would make people forget about the fact that Orton lost to Edge, and set him up for that push towards the title that should start at the end of the summer and culminate at Mania.

However, I haven't heard anything about Rock wrestling at SS, and you'd think something that big would be public by now. I know Rock is involved in Spy Hunter stuff, and I've heard there have been some problems with the filming, so I dont know if that frees up his schedule or makes him more busy. I figured with some of the past buyrate numbers they would need soemone like Rock to solidify a decent number for Summerslam, but GAB did way better than expected so there may not be that pannick anymore. My feeling is that Rock isn't part of any Summerslam plans and wont be at the show. Leaving Orton-Edge in a rematch.

They should do the Rock-Orton match at one of the big PPVs. Survivor Series would make sense, or maybe even the second RAW PPV in October. They only have two weeks to promote that show, and its on a Tuesday, so you'd think they'll need something huge to sell that show on a new day. Maybe Rock-Orton is the way to go.

But like anything with Rocky, its all about his filming schedule, which I dont have on me, so I cant really comment specifically.

WHOA! 2 weeks to book a PPV? WTF are they thinking.

Anyway, once again you make good points CyNick. Randy Orton is the most over guy on RAW, but i don't think he is ready for the world title picture yet,but he could be "ready" by WrestleMania if he can get a good fued with a big name (prob. Benoit after he drops to HHH at SummerSlam) who can make him look damn good. That way he can win the Royal Rumble and go to Mania to face HHH for the title.

but i still would take Jericho over Orton anyday, but i am a little biased...

I think Orton going over Rock at SummerSlam wouldn't be a bad idea if SummerSlam wasn't like a month away...you need more time to build up a great match like that...I say let Orton go over Rock at Mania, then have a Interpormotional match at Slam NEXT year (with Cena and Orton...honestly don't care who comes out on top as long as it is aces in the ring) and at WrestleMania XXII have Randy Orton RKO his way into WWE history.

Remember Stone Cold Steve Austin was MEGA over as one of (if not the) biggest names on WWF TV from learly 1997 (when he won the Rumble) and got a HUGE push from his match at Mania 13 with Bret Hart (in which he didn't even win) and it was STILL another year before they gave him the belt. Giving a man a title belt is like sex...if you KNOW it is going to happen, why do it right away, it is much better if you hold off until you are about to burst.

LOL @ your sex quote. I think you meant ejaculation instead of sex though

The only thing I could say to counter that is that you want to give the belt to a guy when he is really popular, and I think that Orton is definitely at that point right now. Even if he holds it only for like 2 months, this puts him in the main event picture right away, and he might even get mainstream exposure because the women think hes really good looking. I'm not necessarily saying that this is what they should do, but that would be a reason why.

If this happened, Orton shouldnt beat the Rock. Rocks been nice and came in and jobbed to everyone who needed it, but if he loses to much, he won't be a believable threat to anything. The WWE still needs to be able to convince people the Rock brings competition. Orton needs to be happy with the legends he's put over and lie down for the great one.

Yes he is over right now, but it is my firm beleif that your first title reigns should come just at the point when you are MOST over. Remember those who were over like a mo'fo, but still had to wait YEARS to win the title...Shawn Michaels arguably should have won the title at Mania XI, but he didn't. Wait another year and let him win it and suddenly everyone conects with him and his long journy to get there. I already used the example of how Austin had to wait nearly 2 years to win the title once he became a mega superstar...this of Foley, Benoit, and (on the WCW side of things) Booker T. There was about 100 times that each of them were over enough to win the title, but why slap it on them just because they're popular. Use that popularity to tease the audience. Taunt them with the idea that, yes they COULD win...will it be tonight?

It isn't the fest that we enjoy the most, it is the hunt. I say Randy Orton winning the Title at WrestleMania XXII would be wonderful, especially if he can keep putting on good matches, and continue to get more and more over until then.

I said in my previous post that I didn't necessarily think they should give the title to Orton this soon, but there seems to be a trend going on lately. Lesnar and Angle both got the title relatively quickly, when they were really popular. They achieved everything in such a short time that it seems there was nothing left to do. I agree that Orton shouldn't get it yet, and that he should stay in the ME scene without the title for 2 years or so before he wins it. This would make the title mean a lot more to him personally, and it will look a lot harder to win in the fans' eyes as well.
