randy orton will be as big as the rock
at least, he has the potential to be. i could definitely see a huge face turn in the future, setting up a feud with triple h most likey. and if they really are planning on putting the belt on him, that gives him an even bigger boost of noteriety. i could really see this whole thing panning out much like the rock's career has. he first got over in a stable as a heel and then a face turn later and he's the most popular wrestler, next to steve austin, of the past 10 years. id love to see the same thing happen for orton. im so big on this kid, if he just works on his mic skills a little bit more, he'll be golden

This has all been disgusted in the past (including the Summerslam Main Event topic) but anyway, I officially agree with everything you said.

His reactions on RAW the other week (when Eugene was infront of the whole of Evolution and HHH said "follow my lead") was just priceless

He doesn't have close to the natural charisma or the appeal to the non wrestling audience as Dwayne Johnson does. The Rock is a one of a kind.

The question is, how and when will Orton want to move on to 'bigger things'? The Rock took it slow, doing TV show guest spots and SNL among other stuff, getting him known to people, before a bit part in a big movie followed by The Scorpion King before hitting the BIG time. You get the impression that Hollywood found The Rock rather than him going looking for it. Orton might take the wrong road and a quick fix into movies and it could backfire á la Hogan.
In addition, Orton really really isn't The Rock. He's a decent wrestler, keep it that way Randy. |

He wont and I'll tell you why although I hope someone else beat me to it. He doesn't have the charisma of the rock. In fact he doesn't have the charisma of quite a few others still in the company. He doesn't have the mic skills. He talks like he reads man. He may have an ok look, but I don't know. He wont be as over as the rock. |

Cena has more potential than Orton
1) He gets heat on his own 2) Doesn't need a stable to be seen or go over 3) Has more charisma 4) Even though he's corny as hell as a face (it's not his fault), he was solid on the mic back around early 2003. |

I think he'll be the next co-star on RAW, and I think he has charisma, but like Rob said nowhere near what Rock does. But I think he still will be successful as a top guy in the WWE.

Not that he's exactly on par with Kurt Angle, just that these two are in the same sort of ball park. Orton started off pretty stiff, but might end up being significantly better than Angle. You know, depending on how he's handled. |

The thing that's on Orton's side is his age, he's like 23 right? There is so much time for improvement with him. I mean, you usually only get better with time and with practice, so Orton will be very good in the future, that's if he doesn't suffer some career ending injury or something.
Yeah, Angle and Orton would be a good comparison to make. Especially the Angle that insulted the town's sports teams. Angle is a way better wrestler then Orton, but again, that comes with time. Like CyNick said, Orton can't be made into a silly fool when he goes babyface. He's got to have that Austin-type edge to him, but can still be funny like the Rock. Cena as well, although I think they sort of fk'ed that up already with the "poop" references I hear him make every wek. Last edited by Loose Cannon; 07-25-2004 at 05:17 PM. |

The WWE hasn't gone that far with Orton, though the whole "That's the problem with your kind," and "upiitty" cracks make me wonder if even being in cahoots with trips will help him. Thankfully, they didn't run with it, and that whole deal died real fast. There are 3 parties involved. 1-- Randy: He needs to continue to polish himself, and appeal to the fans. 2--The fans. They need to continue to like him. 3--The WWE. They need to use him in a way that allows both of the first two parties to do their respective jobs. Still, any one of them can blow it. |

Cena is lame though. I hate his rap gimmick. He doesn't rap anyways, he just slowly rhymes. It's annoying as fuck having to sit and watch this guy cut a promo or verbally try to take jabs at someone else while on the mic. I squirm in embarrassment for him. Actually I change the channel now when cena is around. He just pisses me off. I think Orton will be bigger than Cena, but not even close to an eltie level like a rock or austin. |

See, that's really not Cena's fault though. The WWE writers changed his chraracter from a " hardcore thug" to more of a "clowning aroud type guy." He's over with the fans, so it's working, but it will get old fast. Cena/Orton will be the big feud in a few years and it's to early to tell how big it will be. Both are younger then Austin and Rock when they had their big feud, so the age thing plays a big factor in everything. It will be a great feud though.

With wrestling, you never know what will work or what won't. Sometimes characters just catch on huge with the fans that were not expected. Eugene's a perfect current example. Problem is they milked him for all he was worth to fast.
But, did you think Rock would be as over as he became when he came in as Rocky Miavia? Probably Not. Did you think Austin would be as over as he became when he was Ringmaster? Probably Not. Things just click sometimes and they seemingly come out of nowhere. So, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see another "Rock" within a few years. |

"Legend Killer" has proven to be a huge factor in Orton's push. Orton caught over a year ago with that gimmick, and he's been steadily pushed ever since. I see no harm being done to his character as his push continues because he's starting to get huge face pops like The Rock did upon his first WWE title run.
But that doesn't justify Randy winning the World title at Summerslam because I don't think he'll draw as well as he can if his title run is delayed to keep fans in suspense for a little bit. Last year everyone was saying that Eddie Guerrero should be pushed to the moon, and he did, but his win over Brock Lesnar was rushed and hurt his capability to draw in the long run even though he defeated both Brock and Kurt Angle. I can see the same thing happening to Orton if he's pushed this soon. The Rock was given the WWE title early and it worked, but that was 1998. I can't see it working for Randy Orton at the present time. |

How the fuck was his win over brock lesnar rushed? Brock lesnar was leaving the company after wrestlemania,i reckon it was the perfect timing for it really, i can't see how it hurt him in anyway....

Well there were rumours werent there?I think there was anyway.I still think it was perfect timing though, it set up a great match between Angle and Eddie at wrestlemania.
I know it was built up in less than a month, but it was still perfect timing. They could've started the feud at the rumble i guess, and have eddie loose that match but win at NO Way Out, atleast then we wouldn't of had to put up with Hardcore holly getting a title shot. |
