Arrow Iron Man Match (Deserves its own thread)

Do you think the 60 Minute Iron Man Match from Raw this past Monday could be the best match of the year so far? I watched it twice - once on Monday, and again just now on video. It's amazing what these guys (and others) are able to put their bodies through, and they should get mad props for it. So what do you think? Was the Iron Man Match the match of the year?

Good match? yeah, but a bad idea.

This year there has not yet been a stand out match...

Last year there was Angle V. Benoit & Michaels V. Jericho. You knew as soon as you saw the match that it would be number 1

I think this match has to be a contender but its iffy. The thing is the Angle V. Benoit match was not iffy. You were certain it was the best

HHH vs. Benoit vs. HBK was by far the stand out match of the year.

Angle vs. Eddie is second in line.

Because of the gimmick Taker vs Kane at WM XX will be a match of the year candidate.

but let's not forget my prediction for MOTY and that's the RVD Christian ladder match

Which one?

I don't think the Ironman match is even close to MOTY, and I think the WM Benoit vs. HHH vs. Michaels has been the best so far.

This has been a "meh" year, but it was a good match. Nowhere near MOTY, but still pretty damn good.

Right now, i would go with either: HBK v. Benoit v. HHH @ WM XX or the RVD/X-Tian Ladder Match on RAW awhile back.

Sure, the Iron Man was a MOTY CANDIDATE. I don't think that's saying too much. It was well done.

My match of the year so far I think is HBK vs. Benoit on Raw.

That would have been if the ending hadn't have been so shitty.

The Iron-Man match had a ok ending considering, but that match had a horrible HHH interference ending.

I hated the ending as much as everyone else especially since I was pulling so much for HBK to win it. But after it was over, I barely even thought about the ending. All I could think was "Holy shit... that match was awesone."

I would say the triple threat at WM has been the match of the year so far. HBK vs Benoit on Raw would be a contender if HHH didn't interefere.

The interference killed any chance for it be a MOTY candidate for me. 53 minutes of a special match, followed by the same 7 minutes we see every week on RAW, thats not MOTY quality IMO.

Just off the top of my head, Ive enjoyed the Mania 3 way, the Backlash 3 way, HBK-Benoit from Phoneix, HBK-HHH and Angle-Eddie from Mania more.

One thing that I consider when talking about MOTY is how the crowd reacted, if the crowd was dead for the match, then it cant be MOTY unless there is nothing else even close. Thats why I would pick the Mania 3 way as the best match so far. It had great work, and the fans were going CRAZY for Benoit to win, so for me that wins out.

I'm going with Benoit vs HBK and HHH at WMXX...

...the deck was stacked against Benoit, and he still came out the winner, CLEAN EVEN.

I really expected both Eddie and Benoit to lose their matches at WrestleMania this year, but Benoit's...just had more things going against him than not. They did a great job of telling a story in that match...

as for the Iron Man Match....it'll rank favorably in 2004's matches but it's nowhere near number 1. This sort of match is best done on PPV, where people are less inclined to change the channel while it's on. I watched for the duration of the match, but I doubt many others did.

I think the story leading up to the match with Benoit sord of ruined the whole thing.. I EXPECTED Benoit to come out on top, because they had to put him against so many obstacles like putting him at #1 in the Royal Rumble and what not. and Heyman saying stuff like "you'll never be wwe champion" and so you had to figure he was finally going to get it at WMXX

It's the WWE.

The alternate outcome would easily crush any and all momentum built up on Benoit.

You act like this is unheard of in the WWE.

I know I'm just saying it was that type of match where you knew the outcome... people around here don't know how to chill

Keep something inmind.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they "need to chill." It doesn't mean they're stressed or whatever.

in this case, the logical outcome is not always the one that happens, so....

Does anyone remember HHH VS HBK on RAW just before the Royal Rumble? I thought that match was awesome, but since it was on TV I don't think it will/should be MOTY but it's a close second. So I'll go for HBK/HHH/BENOIT at WM XX.

Triple threat @ WMXX for MOTY. Best Raw match of the year: Jericho v. Christian in a cage match.

I think the 3 best matches of the year are.........

1. Americas Cup Team TNA vs Team AAA
2. Triple Threat Match WXX Benoit vs HBK vs HHH
3. Foley vs Orton Backlash I think it proved what Orton can do.

I actually watched through the whole of the iron man match which means it was good enough to keep me entertained for a whole hour, so that deserves some respect, the annoying thing was though every time i was getting into the match another advert came along. That really fucking pisses me off because everytime i am getting into a match an advert ive seen hundreds of times before comes on.

If its a proper commercial break thats fine, but fuck i am tired of those don't try this at home videos being in the matches for no fucking reason whatsoever. Watching wrestling is definately not the same as it used to be, those pointless adverts could be ONE reason why the ratings have gone down abit, obviously not the biggest reason but it definately doesn't help.

By the way, i think The Rock vs Triple H iron man match at Judgment day was more entertaining than this, probably cos it didn't have adverts in it, and these two were invovled in a major storyline together at the time. The thing i like about Benoit/HHH though is it was alot more technical based due to that being Benoits style, obviously.

Agree totally.

I'd also throw in Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar at No Way Out.

Wow, I forgot about Orton/Foley at Backlash. That's definately in the top 5 this year. I would be inclined to say the WM Triple Threat is in the lead right now. BTW, I thought the Musical Chairs Match was great. The characters played in this were awesome. Flair got right into it and all.
