Smackdown! Lineup? Spoilers. (Raw and smackdown, potentially)

Okay, after Raw's iron man match and Battle Royal, was it a great idea to throw in the 8 man elimination match tonight? I think it was a pretty good match (relatively), but have kind of mixed feelings about it. Not sure this is the way to go, loading down both shows with cheesey gimmick matches.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I rather enjoyed it, since it actually advanced a decent storyline while creating new ones (especially Cena/Hiroko/Suzuki and RVD/Booker T).

And there were other matches on the card too.

I'm not saying there weren't. The Spike Rey Rey match was pretty good (something I didn't think I'd say for spike in the WWE), and the Tag Titles match was great. Paul really impresses me.

The vignette with Eddie and Angle, also awesome.

However, they tossed in another longer gimmick match, which is questionable.

Still wayyyyy better than Raw.

Yeah I think that is was better than Raw. Smackdown is definitely turning around, and I am intrigued to see if Spike is going to turn soon. I would have preferred if jobbers like Gunn, Reigns, and Suzuki weren't in the battle royal, but I guess that it adds to the match and helps to create possible feuds.

I liked the 8 man elimination concept for SD. Whats great about it is that it allows for some of the losers to come out looking good. Reigns got pinned by Cena, but he still looked real dominant in some places, Billy Gunn looked good, especially in there with Cena. Cena looked like a hero even though he lost before the final pin, and of course BT looks good because he's the champ but he still did it in a sort of heelish way, but a strong heel way.

The only thing I didn't like about the match was that there seemed to be a lot of commercials. I dont mind one commercial, but when you start getting into 2 or 3 it gets kinda annoying.

The thing I didn't like about the Battle Royal on RAW was that it wasn't a strong enough Battle Royal to make Orton look like a star, which is bad because he's going after the top title on that side. Had they done the 8 man elimination on RAW, I think Orton could have come out looking much stronger by say pinning a few guys like Jericho, Edge and say Rhyno. To me that would have been better.

As usual, Cynick, I agree. I loved how Booker played the opportunist, but the skilled opportunist. I loved how Suzuki constantly DQ's himself, thereby making himself look bad (). I liked Luther's ring presence. He can be big.

The only thing I wonder is if Cena looks a bit too strong... his kickouts were kind of nearing the "Triple H point" IMO a bit, just because there were just so many. It definitely accomplishes the point, though. His performance was one of those that elevates a midcarder into the main event position. I just wonder if he was a bit sloppy in no selling some of the offense at the end.

Anyway, Cena's well on his way to becoming a huge, huge star, so the main event was great last night.

Smackdown is absolutely PITIFUL right now.

I watched last night's show and will continue to watch it (I'm a loyal fan), but I think it's sad as to what Smackdown has become.

The 8 man match was pretty cool (for the reasons The CyNick stated), but Smackdown REALLY needs some star power right now.

Angle coming back is a good thing, but they'll need more. Big Show's inevitable return should freshen things up.

I know people aren't going to like this idea, but I'd like to see this.

At Summerslam, Orton defeats Benoit for the title.

Triple H stays a part of Evolution, but somehow gets Vince McMahon to let him challenge (Undertaker?) for the WWE title on Smackdown.

Triple H defeats Undertaker, and becomes the champ on Smackdown.

HOWEVER - Evolution gets to appear on both shows.

This way - Triple H and Orton can still be world champions, while working together.

Evolution's presence on Smackdown can help bolster ratings and fan interest.

ha, its funny that you (Heyman) said SD was pitiful, when really it was one of their better shows since the Apocolypse (the draft). You should have seen some of the really crappy shows.

SD has a combination of bad luck (injuries) and wierd booking (Taker/JBL) which makes the show lack even more star power. Taker rarely wrestles on TV, JBL is on Velocity this week, Eddie is hurt, Kurt is being eased back in to the ring and Big Show is hurt as well. If they had all those guys work every week, the way RAW has all their top guys work every week, the show wouldn't seem to lack as much as it does.

But like I said, I thought the show was good.

In terms of Evolution on both shows, its a bad idea because it kills any credibility the brand split has. Think back to WCW vs WWE, would you ever see a guy on RAW and Nitro (except Rick Rude) and believe that the two companies were at war with each other? Plus, its just to hard to have fueds on RAW and at the same time have fueds on SD. Plus, Vince just wouldn't do it, they are too committed to the concept of two brands to do anything that would go against the concept.

If they really wanted to help out SD why not move some of the guys that aren't doing anything on RAW. Would anyone really miss Edge and Christian on RAW? Why not bring them over to SD as a heel group? Or even Jericho, he's totally wasted on RAW, but on SD he would be in the top mix. I think thats a better idea than doing some wierd angle where only certain guys are allowed to appear on both shows.

I see what point your trying to make with moving certain people to SD! Cynick, but how would that help Smackdown? If they wont miss them on Raw, what makes you think theyre gonna be of anymore use on SD?

I havent seen the show yet but it was good from what ive heard, so im surprised by Heymans comments. Yeah Smackdown hasnt had the best of luck, but it certainly has been way more entertaining than Raw as i keep saying. I don't like the idea of JBL being the champ, but hes doing ok i guess whether he deserves the spot or not,but if i had to order summerslam here in the uk JBL v Taker certainly wouldn't be a main event i would buy the PPV for.

And atleast we havent had to put up with this diva search crap on Smackdown either.

I thought that elimination match was great. What would hvae made it a shit load better would have been to take out all the fucking commercials.

I thought Billy Gunn looked great out there. Yet again, he's established himself as a wrestler who does not constantly belong on Velocity.

Booker T is the shit.

The CyNick pretty much said all that needs to be said.

One thing I noticed about SmackDown is that there is better character development. (And continuity! When Theodore Long was brought in as GM, he instantly remembered Booker T's trashing of SmackDown once he joined the show.) JBL, of all freakin' people, got a bolstering video vignette...I'm not sure how I feel about it, but it worked for the most part. Reminded me of Kurt Angle when he first came to WWE. Rene Dupree, despite being lost in the mix, I feel has more of a definitive character than the rest of La Resistance back on RAW. Kenzo Suzuki, who I originally thought to be a dud, is actually turning out a little better (though his character really only works if you understand Japanese. Basically, he's trashing the US when he talks Japanese most of the time, and talks like a stereotypical, arrogant Japanese man...but Hiroko covers up for him, with the exception of Thursday's SD!when she actually did tell Booker what Kenzo had said about him (no lines about wildebeests, just that his breath stunk)). Even The Dudley Boyz (and Spike) are slowly becoming more refreshing than they have been as of recent. Booker T is wasting his time in the US Title division, but he's playing a heel when the time calls for it perfectly. Even his scissor kick finisher looked as crisp as it's always been when he gave it to RVD Thursday night.

....If it isn't Eugene, or to a lesser extent, Benoit (who we barely see anyway, except to defend the title), where really is that on Raw? Orton is slowly getting there, but I feel he's taken a back seat to HHH and others. Kane is there, Jericho is there, but they have been around for a while. Batista? Matt Hardy? They're kinda flipfloppy now...

(OT: Speaking of Batista, did anyone see that "breakdancing" Summerslam commercial? LMFAO)

Actually thats why Ive always liked Smackdown, because of the character development. At least on SD you get to see guys develop and attempt to move up the card. On RAW you basically have 10 guys who eat up all the time, and they are all at the mercy of HHH as to how high up the card they go. There's still a glass ceiling on SD, but its not as obvious.

Which leads to me to why bringing guys like E+C to SD would be beneficial. On RAW if you are not programmed with HHH, you get lost in the shuffle. On SD more guys are pushed and as a result they are used to their potential. Even though Edge is a bland babyafce, to me he was way better on SD because he was a featured player. He is to a point on RAW, but he would get more exposure on SD. Same for Christian, he might actually have a chance to main event on SD as a heel, on RAW that will never happen.

And not nearly as insurmountable.
