Analyzing Symmerslam
Alright, I'm new at this, and I'm probably not very good at it, but here are my ramblings about the card at Summerslam.
Current Probable Card WWE Championship John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker World Heavyweight Championship Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton Triple H vs. Eugene Dinsmore WWE Intercontinental Championship Edge vs. Chris Jericho vs. Batista WWE Unites States Championship Booker T vs. John Cena World Tag Team Championship La Resistance vs. Rhyno & Tajiri WWE Tag Team Championship Paul London & Billy Kidman vs. The Dudley Boyz Matt Hardy vs. Kane That's a total of eight matches. Not too few, but not too many. It also looks pretty good from my standpoint, the only things really missing are the SmackDown! mid-carders, the Cruiserweight Division and the absence of Ric Flair/William Regal. So let's do up the card to make it more engulfing. Improved Card WWE Championship John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker World Heavyweight Championship Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton Triple H w/ Ric Flair vs. Eugene Dinsmore w/William Regal WWE Intercontinental Championship Edge vs. Chris Jericho vs. Batista WWE United States Championship Booker T vs. John Cena Six-Man Tag Luther Reigns, Kenzo Suzuki & Rene Dupree vs. Charlie Haas, Billy Gunn & Rob Van Dam World Tag Team Championship La Resistance vs. Rhyno & Tajiri WWE Tag Team Championship Paul London & Billy Kidman vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Rey Mysterio & Spike Dudley Matt Hardy vs. Kane Heat Ric Flair vs. William Regal By the way, I refuse to except "The Dudleys" name change. I'll end up embracing it eventually though, but anyway. It looks like an alright card, but what's missing are some interesting gimmicks. For the WWE Title Match, I think I'm safe saying that The Undertaker & JBL aren't exactly the best two wrestlers on the block. However, JBL's "acting skills" seem to be in high order, so maybe a match that encorporates "fear" into it would be good. Make JBL look desperate and credible, by making him fight for his life. I think a Casket Match would be the best pick for this. We haven't seen one in a while, it's a good main event calibur stipulation, and when fans think of JBL going into a coffin, sadly they're gonna be happy. I don't think the World Heavyweight Title match should have a stipo, but the Triple H vs. Eugene match could be turned into something like a Submisison or Tag Match (add Regal & Flair), in fact I'd rather see it as a tag match (so Triple H doesn't either squash Eugene's credibility, or people think he's being pushed too fast). Edge vs. Chris Jericho vs. Batista is fine. I'm extremely clouded on who is going to win this one. If i had to add a stiipulation for this one, it would be Ladder Match, but I think that will come later down the track. The US Title confrontation could be made into a Fatal Fourway or an 8-Man rematch, but I think Lumberjack would be the best choice. Have all the guys after the US Title surround the ring. I could also see Hardcore Holly refereeing the match. Just to create more competition for the title. ![]() The Six-Man Tag could have an added stipulation. Instead of making it goodie goodie face team and bad heel team, why not have a match that will eventually pit them all against each other (like the division is now). I'd have a stipulation along the line of the winning team members have a Triple Threat Match two weeks after to decide the next contender for the title. The World Tag Team Match is fine, but I think a gimmick match would really suit the SmackDown! Tag Title match. A Table Match is an idea, as is an Elimination Tag Match (like the one at last year's Summerslam (I think)). The one I favour however, is the infamous match that was invented at the Summerslam 2000 PPV. Tables, Ladders & Chairs is a big risk, but with 4 Cruiserweights (one a bump machine) and two guys that invented the match, I think it would be extremely entertaining. as well as telling a story. The only problem is lack of proper build-up. Matt Hardy vs. Kane has been done, so I was thinking something along the lines of an Inferno Match. Maybe have Kane win, then have Michaels appear out of nowhere and send Kane through the flames. This would allow Matt hardy to get a rest, give Kane more of a monster appeal (Hardy's out for a few weeks, Kane is back the nest night), as well as explaining the Unforgiven poster, and setting up a program between the two. HBK is not scheduled to return until September, but I think an appearance wouldn't be too much trouble for Michaels. ![]() The only gimmick for a possible Flair/Regal match that I can see fitting is a brass knuckles on a pole match. Final Card WWE Championship Casket Match John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Undertaker World Heavyweight Championship Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton Triple H (& Ric Flair) vs. Eugene Dinsmore (& William Regal) WWE Intercontinental Championship Edge vs. Chris Jericho vs. Batista WWE United States Championship Special Guest Referee Lumberjack Match Booker T vs. John Cena Winners Face Off on SmackDown! to Decide #1 Contender Six-Man Tag Team Match Luther Reigns, Kenzo Suzuki & Rene Dupree vs. Charlie Haas, Billy Gunn & Rob Van Dam World Tag Team Championship La Resistance vs. Rhyno & Tajiri WWE Tag Team Championship Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match Paul London & Billy Kidman vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Spike Dudley & Rey Mysterio Inferno Match Matt Hardy vs. Kane Heat Brass Knuckles on a Pole Match Ric Flair vs. William Regal Who Should Win? Alrighty, now to discuss who should win what, how and why. WWE Championship At first I was inclined to bend in The Undertaker's direction, but I think JBL should now hang onto the title for a little while later. At No Mercy, we could see Heidenreich vs. Taker, then at Survivor Series we have a Buried Alive Match or something for the title. I would like to see JBL cleanly beat Taker, then have Heidenreich run down, flip open the coffin only to find no Taker, This would be a great way to close the show, but that would depend on... World Heavyweight Championship What I'm expecting to be a great match. Everyone seems to be asking "Should Orton win?". I think the answer's fairly complicated, but long yes, short story no. I'd like to see Orton look like he's credible enough to win the title cleanly, but when Triple H interferes "accidently" on Benoit's behalf, Orton loses the match. This teases a Benoit heel turn (if done right) and an Orton face turn. But if they do decide to put the title on Orton, I think it should be the final match for the night, as to lead people right into RAW on Monday. BTW, if I've done my calculations right, this is only Orton's second title match, second Summerslam match, and second Summerslam title match. Good for Orton. ![]() WWE Intercontinental Championship This is harder than it appears to predict. Sadly I can't see Jericho and Batista winning this match (without the build-up). Not to mention it's Toronto. If anyone turns heel at Summerslam, it's likely to be Edge (though I can feel something in Benoit's direction). Maybe Christian could return and give Toronto a reunion. ![]() WWE United States Championship Booker T. I just can't see him losing the title this early. Six-Man I can see the heels winning this match at SS, but TRL throwing a rematch and then finally having another 8-Man to qualify (With RVD winning, and Hardcore Holly filling Booker's spot). World Tag Team Championship E-C-W. 'Nuff said. I can see La Resistance and Rene Dupree having a bit of tention backstage. I would love to see Rene Dupree backstage after the World Tag Team Title Match, approach Rob and Sylvain. The have him talk about the now Quebec represting former champs, then have him drop a line like "I love everything French, but damn, Canada sucks!". TLC Kidman & London. Or have The FBI, Kyo Dai or The Basham Brothers run down to the ring and have them take the belts. Inferno Match Kane. Flair vs. Regal William Regal needs this. So yeah, that's about it. Hope you enjoy wasting your time on long reads. ![]() Pfft |

What I think the card might look like:
World Heavyweight Championship Chris Benoit (c) vs. Randy Orton WWE Championship John 'Bradshaw' Layfield (c) vs. The Undertaker Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero Eugene vs. Triple H Intercontinental Championship Edge (c) vs. Chris Jericho vs. Batista U.S Championship Booker T (c) vs. Rob Van Dam vs. John Cena (though, I'm kind of scared they may involve Cena with Suzuki after Smackdown this week!) 6 Man Tag Team Match The Dudleys (Bubba, D-Von and Spike --< after a heel turn) vs. Paul London, Billy Kidman & Rey Mysterio (I'd love a little stable with these three) World Tag Team Championship La Resistance (c) vs. Rhyno & Tajiri + a divas match and maybe a Woman's title match if Trish is healthy |
