Cowboys Cut Carter for Cocaine Charges
FOXSports.com
Posted: 39 minutes ago Quarterback Quincy Carter is expected to be released by the Dallas Cowboys Wednesday after testing positive for cocaine, league sources told FOX NFL Sunday insider John Czarnecki. Club owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Carter has been released. "It was not a difficult decision for me," he said, declining to elaborate. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells, asked about Carter's release at a regularly scheduled news conference Wednesday at the team's training camp headquarters in Oxnard, Ca., said: "I'm saddened by this. I've got 18 months invested in this process, too. But we're going on." Carter entered the league in the NFL substance abuse program and this is his second positive test, which by NFL rules would warrant a four-game fine — not a suspension. Parcells said offseason acquisition Vinny Testaverde, 40, will replace Carter as the Cowboys' starting quarterback. "Right now, that's the most experienced player that we have, and I'm confident in that player," he said. Carter's agent, Eugene Parker, did not immediately return calls seeking comment. Carter, who started all 16 games last season, came to camp expecting to be the starter again. The other quarterbacks besides Testaverde are rookie Drew Henson and unproven second-year player Tony Romo. The Cowboys drafted Carter in the second round out of Georgia in 2001. He was named the starter to replace Troy Aikman during his first training camp, but he struggled and only started the first eight games. He went 3-5, completing 90 of 176 passes for 1072 yards, five TDs and seven interceptions. The next year he was the starter out of camp again, leading Dallas to a 3-4 record before losing the job to Chad Hutchinson. Last season, the Cowboys went 10-6 with Carter starting and got back in the playoffs in Parcells' first year in Dallas. He threw for 3,302 yards, but had 21 interceptions and 17 touchdowns. He was intercepted at least twice in six games. This move comes on the heels of reviews claiming that Henson has been the best quarterback in camp thus far. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Quote:

Being a Cowboys fan, I'm a bit saddened by this. Quincy had potential to be one of the better QB's in the league. He threw too many interceptions though. But on the bright side, now the Cowboys can start a 40 year old vetern |

Sheesh. There are a lot of mixed reactions around here (Dallas). Many are happy he's gone because they never liked him in the first place, others are not looking forward to Testaverde being QB. Also, in case you guys didn't know, everybody who lives in Texas is a big conspiracy theorist. I've already heard people saying that Parcells actually had something to do with it because he never liked Carter anyway.
![]() It's times like these I'm glad to be a Packers fan. |

Like him or not, Carter was Dallas' best chance to win. Besides that, Parcells invested so much in him and worked with him, helping him improve so much just so he can he can go and do this. I'm pissed. I dunno. I can't give a pure reaction until this all sinks in. Awful news any way you look at it though.

It would make an amazing story if Vinny could take the team far. Henson will probably be starting by years end though. He's got a future... I dunno about this year though.

oh, wrong Quincy... Anyway, I bet in the NBA or MLB this wouldn't happen, I bet there unions have rules about cutting players who failed drug tests... more reasons to like the NFL... the NFLPA knows it's place. |

Anyways, I think he is better then Vinny Testicles tho...Cowboys are in deep trouble, they got Eddie George now but he isn't exactly the type of player who can take a team on his back. He is a 10,000 yard rusher but he has the lowest average yards per carry of anyone in the 10,000 yard club (3.7) |

The NFL loved Quincy, like they love Vick and McNabb.
Because they just want to see a black quarterback succeed.

Quincy is not overrated. He wasn't amazing or anything but I never heard any experts say he was. What he did last year was show that he has the ability to control a game. The defense, though they were great, could not get turnovers.
Quincy wasn't great last year but he showed alot of improvement. It would have been really interesting to see how much MORE he could have improved this year. |

And Eddie George will be splitting time with Julius Jones. I think they should make a good RB tandem in the ball control offense.
Now I'm just hoping Vinny can pull of a miracle and "Kitna it up"

I dunno about Cincy. I thought the defense was awful last year but the offense was great with Kitna. We'll have to see how Carson Palmer handles it this year.
