Exclamation With the 1st pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select...

Quote:
Boston out for the year with knee injury.

Many fantasy owners had David Boston labeled a "bust" for the coming season, his first with the Dolphins. Others had hopes that a reunion in Miami with Jerry Sullivan, who was his receivers' coach in Arizona during his most productive years, would lead to a strong rebound.

All opinions of the muscle-bound, heavily pierced wide receiver were rendered moot on Friday afternoon, however, when he injured the patella tendon in his left knee during workouts. The injury occurred during practices with the Texans, as he ran a deep pattern and his knee appeared to buckle without contact. Boston was carted off the field with the knee wrapped and later taken for an MRI test, which revealed the damage. Season ending surgery was recommended.

Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt, who has been through one of the roughest offseasons in NFL history, broke the news to reporters Friday afternoon and suggested the offense was ready to move forward, saying: "We have confidence that other members of our receiving corps will step up and meet this challenge."

Which receiver is going to step up? The best bet is that Derrius Thompson will get the initial shot at starting opposite Chris Chambers. Ironically, Chambers is left without a proven wingman less than 24 hours after signing a five-year contract extension.

But that's par for the course with the Dolphins, who also don't have a proven running back or quarterback. At least the offensive line has proven itself…proven to be among the worst in the league, that is.

Think coach Wannstedt has been on the phone with representatives for Tim Brown yet? The other possibility is a trade with the Buccaneers for Keenan McCardell, who has been holding out of training camp in a contract dispute. It would seem they have to make some kind of move.

The Dolphins don't have many other viable options on their roster—Terrence Wilkins, Kendall Newson, Marvin Minnis, Sam Simmons, and J.R. Tolver appear to be the next in line after Thompson. In a word, yuck.

Without Ricky Williams and Boston, the Dolphins have few fantasy-relevant players left. Chambers is going to face frequent double teams because opposing defenses won't really have anyone else about whom to worry. Tight end Randy McMichael, who has had a bad offseason of his own, will also likely draw increased attention from defenses now that the receiver weaponry has been depleted.

Jay Fiedler and A.J. Feeley are battling for the starting gig at quarterback, but they may both be reconsidering their candidacy soon.

Well if things couldn't get any worse for the Dolphins...

lol jeez. The title for this topic could not be more apropriate. (Although even with this, I may still go with San Francisco to end up with the 1st pick of the draft.)

Rumor is Dennis Green is going to make a hard press to Robert Smith to come back for a year.

Smith was looking into it and decided against it, but it would be pretty cool

Smith/Smith, and then LARRY FITZGERALD will be cool.

But I will end up hating them all for that horseshit from last year.

Reading about how physical and dirty the Vikings are trying to be... I wonder if Emmitt will break his hand/hip, and Robert Smith will tear the ligaments in both knees in the preseason game vs Minnesota.

Also, the WR depth in Arizona will be needed as at least one of them will be killed by EJ Henderson.

Arizona will be solid, 5-6 games won. They are moving in the right direction now and I think they have a new stadium this year (or is it next year?). Also it is rediculous how bad Robert Smith would be if he came out of retirement. He had one really good season and before that was just average, add four years off and four years of age he would be useless.

Smith has always been good. However, injury-prone and dainty.

He ran out of bounds at the end of the 98 championship game to stop the clock, which we were trying to run out.

So a big part of the 98 loss goes on Robert Smith.
