I just went to a Raw house show yesterday (my first show, damn it was so cool seeing it in person. 360 pounds of Samoan looks a lot bigger in person), and the opening match was Rhyno and Tajiri VS Chuck Palombo and Simon Dean…
Before the match started I was talking to a few fans about how he should be Nova, and how we should start up a Nova chant. Well, it’s the first live event, so I HAD to watch. “Simon Dean” looks like a potentially entertaining persona. Avoids a hit and then stretches, gets a boot to the tailbone while doing lunges, and a push up/choke hold combo. He told Rhyno something to the effect of “I’m here to help you, help you!”

Nova
I don’t remember much from ECW, aside from frequently marking out for Raven, Rhyno, Tommy Dreamer and Nova. Their name could be mentioned like “And I saw Tommy Dreamer (MARK OUT!!!) and Nova (MARK OUT!!!) standing around the coffee table the other day at Raven’s (MARK OUT!!!) house, and they talked about Rhyno (MARK OUT!!!).” So he must have been great in ECW. A lot of fans have talked about how they want to see him as Nova, not Simon Dean.

Although the idea of Nova coming back would be great, there were 2 kinds of Nova:

SUPERNOVA

Cool Nova with loads of decent moves and beastie boys entrance

If Supernova were to come back he'd be left with a hurricane fued or stable and nothing would happen to him.

If he came back as cool Nova kicking ass it wouldn't look right as alot of the other guys on the current locker room as as big if not bigger, meaning he's just get put into the Cruiserweights and been seen once a month.

The idea of this New gimmick does sound appealing and has a possible Mid Card fued possiblity with the likes of RVD or Shelton Benjamin (depending on where he goes), If Nova does become Simon Dean however I would asume most of his unique offence would go as that was the stuff that got him over in the first place. The Simon Dean gimmick would have a shelf life of about 2 years before it gets really stale so in the short term go with the new gimmick, but I aint got a clue what to do in 2 years time

Simon Dean without even giving a second thought. That is one of those gimmicks that can get over, if heel and if played over the top, which I know Mike can do. I hear he's got a great mind for the business, so I would expect him to play this character as over the top as he possibly can which may generate some great heat. It's kind of like the London/Kidman thing I was discussing earlier. Sometimes gimmicks that just seem so ridiculous get over with the fans and I think this is one of them.

If he keeps the innovative offence, I don't care if they make him tone down big time like they probably will then Nova

Simon Dean. After all,that is what we will see so who cares about Nova? Although this gimmick will get over, Nova would be good for a Hurricane fued but as you can see with masked superheroes is that they stay on Velocity/Heat.

Nova was part of the ECW legacy. As much as we all loved it, and want it to come back, it's gone. Nova, or Simon Dean, or whatever, is moving on in a positive way. He's not relying on his history in ECW or the small fan base that supported him in ECW that now seems absent in the WWE audience (e.g. Credible anyone?) and that definately isn't a bad thing....
