Don't get me wrong, having an underdog come up and beat the big dynasty can be sweet, but it seems like it happens too much lately, and again I would like to see the two best teams in the league going at it. When the teams in the World Series are both on the caliber of St. Louis and New York, there are more name-brand players and it is usually matched up better.
I mean last year the Marlins beat the Yankees, it makes for a good story but the series wasn't really that exciting and we weren't familiar with a lot of the Marlins players. The same thing goes with the Angels the year before. There are always the perennial Cubs and Red Sox threats to break their respective curses, but I just don't like that happening this year. 1 it came so close last year that it wouldn't really have the same effect as this year, 2 both teams have huge star studded lineups this year but neither seems to play the role of a really good team or the underdog. The Cubs players are too good to be underdogs and thats the position they will be coming in at, last year was the year, I don't care about that story anymore. So what do you think? It would probably be really great for baseball if the Twins or A's beat out the Yankees to make the World Series, but for the majority of the nation those games just wouldn't be as intense as the two power of baseball this year going at it. Sorry I made a new thread, we can alter this one later to be a playoff thread or something, but I thought this deserved its own thread. Dont Mess With Kids |

No. We need somebody else representing the AL than the Yankees every year.

Dodgers-Yankees would make Bud Selig very happy. 2 biggest marketplaces, old rivalry renewed. Sheffield, Brown wanting revenge... Weaver and Ventura getting a chance to get back at the Yanks... Whats not to love?

St. Louis is a big market, granted not as big as LA, but the Cards probably have a better fan base and a much better team. Just look at this team:
Womack Rolen Renteria Pujols Edmonds Walker Sanders Matheny against Jeter A-Rod Posada Matsui Sheffield Bernie Olerud Sierra Wilson ![]() There is no doubt that the Yankees are the best team in the AL and the Cardinals stand out high above the rest of the NL, personally I would just rather see the "Best of the Best" instead of "The Wildcard who Upsets the Yankees" again |

Yea, I understand what you're saying. Granted, if there is a Yanks-Cards series, I would definitely watch it, but I personally would just rather see the Dodgers there.

I think most of the games would be slugfest, considering how many great hitters and not so great pitchers there are on both teams. Boring.

I want to see Oakland or Texas get in on it
How awesome would it be for Buck Showalter and Alfonso Soriano to beat their former club and show up A-Rod in his pursuit for the Ring. |

St Louis-New York would be way too much offense. The best world series are the ones with pitching duels, not offensive ones

Basically what I am saying is that I want to see the two best teams in the league go for it, because its been underdogs the past two or three years.

I consider St Louis an underdog right now even though they have a standout record

Rolen-Renteria-Pujols-Edmonds-Walker is no underdog no matter which way you put it.
The Cubs didn't come back from their injuries to become a dominant team running away with the wildcard, the Braves don't have the personnel to get out of the first round, the Dodgers are pretty fucked up lately and the Giants bullpen is about to crash. Meanwhile the Cards are running as strong as ever, they haven't showed any signs of slowing down at all, and Larry Walker is one of the most underrated hitters in the league because of his years in Colorado. I don't see many pitching staffs being able to shut down the Cardinals for a whole series. The Yankees are going to have a little more trouble if they go against the Twins or A's, but both are in the position to get to the World Series. |

The Cards so aren't underdogs!
If they don't make it to the end i'll be very very surprised. |

Also, people are acting like both teams have dreadful pitching, which really isn't the case at all.
If they did neither team would be on top in their respective league. The Yank's bullpen has been fantastic for the most part, the rotation is potentially brilliant, its just a case of getting back into the groove for Brown and Mussina. And the Cards pitching has been excellent considering what people were expecting from them, Suppan, Morris, Williams, Marquis and Carpenter have all be excellent, plus they have a decent closer in Jason Isringhausen |

Marquis will probably pitch from the pen in the playoffs and they also have some other good pen guys like King. When Kevin Brown has pitched this year, he has been real good, now he's just got to pitch, and Javier will make a better #3 man than just about any other team out there.

Its not exciting to see an underdog team of no-name players upset every year. Think how boring it would be if the playoffs was like the Braves and the Rangers, thats not a world series, the world series is where the best teams are supposed to be, and I want to see that happen again. So sue me.

I wanted Red Sox vs. Astros, but the Astros crapped out... (lots of good side stories, Clemens, Williams, Bagwell, etc..)
I'm sure Selig is once again jerking off on the idea of Red Sox v. Cubs, not just 2 good TV markets, but the media would be nuts w/ both teams not winning one in almost 100 years. Plus the Nomar trade... Nomar comes back to Fenway to try and win a WS for someone else... |
