August 19, 2004 - Dennis Miles, better known throughout the music community as D-Roc, rhythm guitarist of Ice-T's Body Count rock
band, passed away August 17th, 2004, due to complications from lymphoma. He was 45.

In the company of friends and family members, D-Roc passed at City of Hope hospital in Duarte, California, at approximately 3:15 a.m. Miles is survived by daughter Paris, stepdaughter Kianna and family in Los Angeles.

D-Roc, whose driving guitar energy provided Body Count's musical pulse, was joined in the group by Ice-T, Ernie-C (lead guitar), Mooseman (bass) and Beatmaster V (drums).

"D Roc was the backbone of the Body Count sound he went to school with Ernie and I and for me it was great to bring friends from my childhood along to share in success. Words cannot explain how much we will miss D Roc more as a friend than as a band member," says Ice-T.

D Roc was best known for sporting a hockey mask that hid his face from view. "He didn't want to be a star," says Ernie-C, who went to high school with D-Roc in Los Angeles. "He didn't want people to know his face. He just enjoyed playing the music. He didn't want to get caught up in the hype of being a star. I remember him always having a lot of energy and just really being positive. He always wanted to play, more than anyone. He was honest and had a commitment to being a friend."

D-Roc's passing is the latest Body Count tragedy. Beatmaster V passed in 1996 due to complications from leukemia and Mooseman was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in 2000 while visiting his mother in South Central Los Angeles. Mooseman was not the intended target.

Body Count's lineup has been evolving throughout the years, something Ernie-C says will continue. "We will carry on the band in some form," Ernie-C says. "I don't know if it will be Body Count, but in some form, Ice and I will always play together.
