Would Direct X 9 mess up games that are made for Direct X 8?

I dunno but I get problems in Red Faction.

My character will continue strafing to the side when I stop pressing that direction sometimes and if I had fired my weapon when that happens, it stalls until the stuckness or whatever passes.

I wonder if Direct X would have anything to do with it.

Anyone have quick suggestions that dont require a bunch of shit.

I don't know about DirectX 9 specifically, but I've personally never had any problems like that. I often play older games that require DX3 or 4, and I currently have 8.1 (I think) installed, and I never run into problems. Maybe DX9 is just buggy? I'm not sure

As far as I know DX9 shouldnt cause any problems with older games.
