Naughty by Nature?

So I was perusing through some of the "Rate the Wrestler" threads, and I noticed that many people thought that politicking was a large factor in determining a wrestler's overall greatness. So I got to thinking...

Do you think that a wrestler known for shitty politics backstage (i.e., Triple H, Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, etc.) is just born that way? Or do you think it's just more of the ego that comes with the position of popularity?

I know that sounds a little awkward, so I'll try and offer an example of what I'm talking about. Chris Jericho, for instance, has never been known for being bad backstage. But let's say that he somehow got as over as Hogan and became the company's top draw. Do you think that he'd still be the easy-to-work-with guy that he has been known to be his whole career? Or do you think that he may turn into the egomaniacal jerkass that some people think Hogan was?

I realize it's all completely subjective, but it was just a thought I had.

FREAKY! OUTTIE!

Aside of doing what he thought was best for business, I only recall Steve Austin refusing to work with three guys, Owen Hart, Jeff Jarrett and Billy Gunn. And I don't blame him for Jarrett (personal issues going back 9 years). I can understand his reasons for not wanting to work with Hart and Gunn too although I didn't agree with them.

Aside from a few jackasses on the internet who got upset when he wouldn't job to Lesnar, when has anyone really said a bad word about Steve Austin?

OK, maybe it was unfair of me to place Austin in that category, but either way, that's not the point of the initial thought. I heard some things that may not have been true about him, but does it make a difference as far as the discussion goes if Austin is or isn't an example?

I think it's just the real life personality of the guy. Take Bret Hart. He was main eventing with the WWF time and time again. He was the WWF's main guy, but did Hart refuse to do jobs or refuse to work with people just because he held some power? No. Hart did what was asked of him. (Except for that one time AND THIS THREAD BETTER NOT TURN INTO THAT ) It's hard to answer these "What If" questions, so I don't really know if Jericho would of been like that or not.

Oh and if you want to mention backstage bullshit, put Taker in there.

I love Taker. But when I say that, I mean I love his character. Calloway is a fucking prick who needs to get his ass handed to him. You don't see people who have been working at law firm's who are like 1 position below from owning the place, acting like a big shot AND going around telling the boss what he is going to do whether he likes it or not. That pisses me off the most

I think the personality of a guy does have an impact on whether they would use politics. Take Kurt Angle as an example. A good guy and I don't believew anyone has ever had a bad word to say about him backstage. So I don't think Jericho would use politics.

A guy like The Undertaker only gets away with what he does because he's allowed to. With the way wrestling works (and often turns out), you can get dropped after years of working with one company and not get as much as a goodbye from anyone there.

My point: Taker isn't making anything for WWE right now, and he does nothing for the company that someone else couldn't do. Maybe Vince needs to learn how to control his wrestlers - or maybe he's afraid that if he exercises more control they'll all change their names to symbols and refer to themselves as "The Wrestler Formerly Known As.."
