Will the Simon Dean character work?
I remember before the Eugene character debuted, we were all sort of negative about its appearance. It sort of made a mockery out of our intelligence, and of poor Nick Dinsmore. The fans caught on though, and soon Eugene was soaring, on par with The Rock in terms of reactions at his appearance on the show.

Then they did a Rock and pushed him too hard. When you push a character that needs MAJOR adjusting to, you risk the entire character. The WWE maybe now realises this. I think Eugene would have been a good competitor in the WWE European Championship scene (if it was still around). If they gave him a wrestling prodigy angle, I could have seen him in the main event, but his mind of a child not knowing his own strength thing just wore thin. Eugene wasn't a complete flop, but some crowds didn't lie his presence in the main event scene. But maybe nick did benefit from this whole misplaced gimmick thing. The WWE knows he can work in the ring, and on the mic, they know he can get over, and they know he will do anything to be on WWE TV. I can see Nick Dinsmore coming back as Eugene, before turning heel, and revealing he played you all. Maybe it could have been a bet with his "Uncle" Eric Bischoff? "Hey Uncle E, I bet you $500 that the fans of the WWe will believe I am mentally disabled.". For some reason I can see this getting MAJOR heat. Maybe Dinsmore could then align himself with Rob Conway (one he breaks away from Evolution)? I can see Ron CONway (notice the con) could have deceived us all into thinking he hated America. He could then say somehting like "I don't hate America, I just hate wrestling fans, because shot when we get in the ring and work our ass off, you couldn't care less!".

Anyway, how do you think the fans will take to the Simon Dean character? I personally think it is less of a gamble. They shouldn't have him go after titles for a while. Maybe they could put him in the lackluster tag team division on RAW after a while. I can see him partnering with an "underfit" Maven, while SImon makes him "Toug Enough". I could see this starting a feud between Al Snow and the Super Nova of Fitness, Simon Dean. Maybe Malenko could come out of retirement and have a mini-feud with this guy? Maybe Sergeant Slaughter could wear his wrestling boots one more time? I can just see this character getting over.

Maybe the WWE could get the rights to a song like "That's the way, uh-huh uh-huh, I like it", because I would be extremely happy to watch a guy like Mike Bucci in the ring doing backflips to escape clotheslines while his theme is playing. I'd love to see Bucci wrestling with his music playing, whenever he's in control. They could say it's because he's a fitness guru, but a smart commentator could also make reference to how Simon is no stranger to wrestling, and he's using the music to blur the focus of his opponent while he controls the match. It would be fun the first few times, but eventually people would be sick of it, which is when Dean brings out the "I'm not doing this for fun, this is for you, because you are all dangerously unhealthy." line. I can't see Dean as a straight out heel, simply because he will always have fans who will cheer their lungs out for him. I can see JR telling us how some people embrace the "Simon System", but I can see him as modified version of the Right to Censor with his, "This is for your own good." presence.

They did this gimmick before and it didn't work. Remember Muffy? I don't think this is going to work, but then again I was a fan of his Nova character so this is a huge step down for me, people who have never heard of Nova might take to it though.

His promo was decent. He could use a better gimmick (the WWE seems to be pushing a return to cartoony gimmicks), but I'm sure he'll get over with his-uber ring skills.

when that promo came on, I thought it was a new gimmick and then they never said anything about him coming to WWE, and they just put up a phone number, so I am befuddled.

I laughed my ASS off at that promo. I heard this gimmick was done before, but damn, this guy really sells the character! For me, WWE isn't strictly about wrestling -- it's about showmanship; characters that stand apart from each other. 3C looks like just another hardass, another face in an endless line of "tough guys". But Simon Dean is full of character, and he seems to have it ready to go. lol, I don't care if he IS a heel, I'll cheer for him as long as he stays entertaining.

Simon Dean reminded me of a mix of Mr. Perfect and Body Donnas. I think it could work longer than Eugene but only time will tell.

I do think with the character, young Nova could go a long way since it is a perfect heel since he won't use current events to get himself over. He will just use the imperfectness of his opponent to his advantage, along with his wrestling skills. Plus, if anything he does is out of comedy, just remember his name was based around Dean Malenko as a joke.
