And not that I'm complaining or anything, but a lot of the girls are very "modelish". So are the guys too. But I guess you have to be to be on TV.

Does anyone know who the writers are or what they've previously worked on?

I thought it was pretty cool. I liked it and thought it was interesting. Im also wondering where that looping message will take us in the future. This show seems more like its a movie broken apart then it is a tv show.

For shits and giggles, I went to the Lost website. They have a forums section there. This guy is waaaay too into it.

Just a few observations:

- there are no unknown or lost islands anywhere on the planet Earth. Satellites have mapped and remapped the surface many times, down to areas measured by a few feet (most likely with considerably more accuracy for military satellites).

- the island that they're on is *large*. Even if you assume a roughly circular shape based on the visuals provided in episode two, it would take several days to walk the entire circumference. If the island extends beyond what we saw then it would, of course, be larger.

- the Pacific has no uninhabited islands of this size, especially in the area the pilot spoke of. All of the remotely useful islands were colonized by European powers as waystations for merchants and warships, and remain inhabited to this day.

- the message in French discovered in episode 2 has been transmitting for 16 years and 5 months. Putting aside the power source (and no, no battery available today, much less in 1988, will be able to provide the power required to send a message strong enough to swamp a transceiver for more than 16 years), it beggars the imagination to think that such a message will go unheard for all that time. There are commercial planes, private planes, commercial transport vessels, naval vessels, pleasure yachts (which would almost certainly stop at that island, as they often do at uninhabited islands in the Caribbean), and so forth. At some point someone must've heard the message.
Even if you accept the idea that no one heard the message, the U.S. military runs a series of spy satellites whose sole purpose is to monitor radio transmissions by non-U.S. warships and submarines world-wide. It beggars the imagination that one of these satellites didn't pick up the anomalous signal, which, once identified, would've been forwarded to the appropriate authorities. (Note: don't go X-Files-ish and assume the military wouldn't forward the signal to hide the existence of their satellites, because they aren't much of a secret. Even if there was a protocol to follow, the message could easily be forwarded as something which was 'picked up by a passing merchant vessel'.)

So, what we've got is an island that can't exist anywhere on Earth and a radio signal that couldn't be missed for more than 16 years. Occam's Razor tells us to pick the simplest explanation that fits the facts, no matter how outrageous that explanation may seem. The only thing I can think of that comes close is that the castaways are no longer on Earth and that "Lost" is essentially a dramatization of the old 'Bermuda Triangle' stories, i.e., that the downed plane somehow passed through some SF-ish break between our Earth and an alternate Earth and crashed on a truly uninhabited island on that alternate Earth. In which case our castaways are *never* going home, no matter what.

If this is a Bermuda Triangle-like tale, it would explain several things:

- the breakup of the plane . Planes just don't break up like that in flight; after they hit the ground, yes - but almost never in flight. And while the tail section shearing away is plausible if the plane were under extreme stress, the nose section coming apart and landing a considerable distance from the fuselage is not. The entire plane crash pretty much defies the laws of physics; whatever affected it had to be unnatural.

- the appearance of the polar bear indicates that other planes or ships have crashed or come apart in the area of the island. For the polar bear this was almost certainly a ship (large mammals are usually transported by ship, not plane), and it had to have broken up in order for the polar bear to escape drowning.

- the large creature that seems to like eating people. My rough calculations based on what I saw from the brush moving about, the death of the pilot, and the 'height' of it's cry tell me that it's at least twenty-five feet tall. There are no mammals on Earth this tall, nor have there ever been any of this size. Not ever. Even the titanothere, the largest mammal ever to exist, wasn't this tall (and it was a plant-eater). Furthermore, if you take a look at how the trees move and how the animal maneuvered about the nose section to snack on the pilot, it has to be bipedal. I thought 'tyrannosaur' or one of it's relatives, but the producers have nixed this idea, so whatever it is it isn't from Earth - from ANY time period.

- and, of course, the fact that no one has ever detected the distress call, despite the fact that it's so powerful SIXTEEN YEARS LATER that it can still swamp a transceiver.

If I'm right, future episodes might include:

- other animals which don't fit the characteristics of the island;
- bizarre weather patterns, like the ones that we saw in the first episode;
- the wreckage of at least one ship somewhere on a beach;
- the wreckage of a second ship or plane also somewhere on the island, with some unique characteristics (i.e., it must have been carrying a power source that can power a transmitter capable of producing sixteen years of strong signal, and the only thing that fits the bill is a nuclear pile like the ones used on military satellites and NASA interplanetary probes);
- anomalies that appear and disappear near the island, perhaps unusual lights or vortex-like weather patterns

Guess we'll just have to wait and see. If the producers have something else in mind I sure as hell hope they explain everything in a satisfying manner and don't blow it with bad science or something ridiculous like 'a secret government experiment'.

P.S. Before someone says "the Bermuda triangle isn't in the Pacific, dooooood!" I'd like to point out that ships and planes disappear all over the world. It just so happens that some of the oddest disappearances have occurred in what is known as the 'Bermuda Triangle'. Just because you aren't in the Triangle doesn't mean your ship or plane can't disappear, never to be recovered. Google some stats if you want confirmation.

- other animals which don't fit the characteristics of the island;
- bizarre weather patterns, like the ones that we saw in the first episode;
- the wreckage of at least one ship somewhere on a beach;
- the wreckage of a second ship or plane also somewhere on the island, with some unique characteristics (i.e., it must have been carrying a power source that can power a transmitter capable of producing sixteen years of strong signal, and the only thing that fits the bill is a nuclear pile like the ones used on military satellites and NASA interplanetary probes);

I thought it was quite boring at first but now I'm liking it.

I guess this is a spoiler but it was on the info for the next episode but I'll black it out just in case nobody wants to read it: Kate is the fugitive and the guy that Jack was trying to heal was the Court Marshal.

Just saw last night's episode. I guess next week we're going to learn about the bald loner guy. The doc had to let that one guy out of his misery and killed him after that southern guy shot him with the gun that that girl had but managed not to kill him. I have GOT to learn some names here.

There were some interesting thoughts on some of those boards about people with scars and people without scars meaning something. As if they're on different sides or whatever.

And a whole bunch of people were talking about light vs. dark and how it's nothing but a game of backgammon or some shit.

Those people are morons.

Im still watching it because I pretty much have to now that I havnt missed an episode but they just arent keeping me hanging on anymore. For some reason I think that everything is gonna turn out to be something stupid and dumb and make all the viewers mad.

yea, can't wait until next week.

So, that little kid was the one who stopped the raft the first time

Lock stopped the transmitter the first time.

And when you see the preview for next week, that little kid is like "Don't open it." I think he knows what's up.

I thought he was involved with the island/the others somehow if you can remember his flashback episode where he shows like supernatural powers or something. Then when he was reading the spanish comic book with the polar bear. Then when the others didn't want the baby, but they were coming for the boy, I was like "Oh shit".

To be honest, I've become one of those nerds who join "Lost" forums and explain their theories. Actually, I don't have any yet. But there are some good ones out there which I'll find and post in a big long post later. But for now, I'll post a bunch of thoughts off of the top of my head.

About Walt. He can see into the future with his strange "sixth sense" or whatever, correct? Well, couldn't he see that he was going to be kidnapped?

YES HE DID! A few episodes back, Micheal says "We don't have to get on the boat." And Walt, after a long pause, replies "Yes we do."

Also, he told Locke not to open the hatch. Locke didn't listen. Hmmmm.

Fate/destiny is a HUGE theme of the show. Fate/destiny was even mentioned 3 or 4 times in this episode. Science vs. Faith with Jack/Locke. Fate/destiny with...someone else and Jack. Can't remember. Might have been Locke.

About Arzt...I think the writers intended Arzt to represent the critics who hate this show. What did Arzt say before the dynamite exploded in his face?

"Why haven't you (Hurley) lost any wieght?"
"Is the Korean guy fishing for everyone?"

Most of these are complaints made by people who don't really like the show.

About a minute later BOOM! TAKE THAT!

Did you notice the comic book Hurley was reading?

The numbers. (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) There is a HUGE thread about this and where the numbers pop up. "Footballs are located in isles 8 and 15". The room Hurley was in was 2342. When Hurlys car broke down it was at 23c and 42 km. When hurley ran through the airport, there was a team with those numbers on the jerseys. Kates deposit box was 81 or something. The flight was 815. Gates 15-23.

When people say that the numbers are a bunch or coincidences and that people look too much into it, I say bullshit. The creators put it there for a reason.

Alex, Danielle's child, might have been on the bought. People are speculating that it was the person who threw the bomb.

The moster........fuck if I know. I've heard some good theories with some good evidence though....The island could be the monster....The monster could be a big mouse trap around the whole island....The monster is definitly mechanical...The moster is defintly "nanomachines" taken from the book "Prey"...The momster is nothing but smoke which takes the form of what that person sees...The monster is a shapeshifter.....I DONT KNOW. I'll wait untill next season, I'm tired of these theories.

Scars,watches,handcuffs,smoke,rain,fire,toy planes...all of these are important symbols throughout the show.

Light/Dark is definitly an important symbol. "Dark territory" "Black rock"

It could be one big Backgammon game.
Jack:"Do you like to play games John?"
Locke:"Yes, I do."

I don't know where to end. My mind feels like it's about to rip apart.

Those people are morons.
I dunno. Hard to believe I said that a few months ago.

Also, before I leave, NAMES ARE EXTREMLY IMPORTANT!

John Locke is an obvious one (look in a history book)
Ethan Rom...I read TV guide and in it it says if you flip the letters around..."Other Man"
Ana Lucia...isn't ana a prefix meaning with? Lucia is light? With light? The whole Dark/light thing.
Rossue and others. GOING TO BED!

The one thing I cant way for in the new season is the new characters. I read in an interview yesterday that they plan on introducing some of the other people that were on the flight and survived and bringing some of them in as new characters. Rumour going around is that Michelle Rodriguez (Girl Fight...Resident Evil...Blue Crush) Might join the cast because its been said that she was on the flight. There is a cameo of her at the very beginning of the season sitting on the plane. Dont know if thats true or not because I havnt seen the first episode again.

I had a few thoughts of what might of been in there....was I right...No.

In looking around on the net at interviews with J.J Abrahm he says that we might see Boone and Artz a few more times in the show. So my thoughts were that maybe that capsule thing was really a chamber of some sort...and when they open it all the people that have been killed off are some how in there. It would be weird and now that I realize it im glad they didnt do it because now there is a whole new area to the island to explore.

CANT FREAKIN WAIT
